GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

I dont even have an order in anywhere.

I almost put one in at Amazon way back when, but there was a glitch from
the bank. then I decided i didnt want the cam, and then started to look at mk2.

So Im not playing this call - freak out - cancel card game everyone is. i think it would drive me MORE nuts, than already.

I'm gonna stay cool. I really have cams to cover me if I shoot.

I just WOULD LIKE a new fun toy to play with.

They announced GH1 months before release and this is happening. Really think someone else is just going to up and release one? I guess so actually...not all companies announce in advance of launch (think Apple.)

Anyway I don't want another camera I want this one...I'm totally smitten. If I saved up for part of the summer I'd have enough for 5D MkII if I canceled my order here, but I don't want to do that...I'd rather have my Gh1 and accessories...but even without that, I'd seriously rather have a GH1.

Sometimes they do announce in advance of launch -- but they always always always announce on their schedule. They've allowed pre-orders of things from time to time, and it usually results in situations like these...people waiting...product not shipping...etc.
 
Yeah I know they don't do it every time but they do a fair amount of the time and usually with lead times less than 6 months...exceptions being things like the iPhone and App Store which required time to you know...finish...but also to educate potential buyers.

Generally I find this preferable to say...when Microsoft showed off project Natal and I said: cool I want that, let me go buy it, and they said: cool, it'll be ready in 2010 or 2011....wtf. Apple has somewhat spoiled me.

This is the part that is so totally out of whack.

I'm still waiting on my May 3rd order from J&R and my June 5th order from Panasonic Direct (sh**tron)...

It just hard to fathom that many have shipped and people like us are still waiting after pre-ordering well in advance??? No major retailer has shipped to date that we know of...

-J&R = nill
-B&H = nill
-Amazon = nill

How is it possible? If I had to guess I'd put the released number around... 200-300 units
 
Updated today, eBay USA has new Japanese Menu Versions of the GH1 available with and without kit lens... Shipped from Japan it seems.

1699 with lens!
899 without lens!

Wish the menus could be flashed to English but that's not the case. If you are fluent in Japanese that is a great deal for body only.

I think however the kit lens is a great part of the deal. Ahhh wish Pana had a widely available release!

To me the bigger problem is... warranty issues. Your totally rolling the dice and praying that the ebay seller will help you out down the line.

I dunno, I actually just made new japanese friends. and they think it will BE
REALLY hard for me to use a cam with just japanese menu.

Not sure how Kholi managed to do it. { Kholi, are you part Japanese by chance? }

SquareTrade will warranty an item from eBay. If you buy today, the GH1 warranty is just a hair over $100. It's normally $150, but they almost always have some sort of promo going on to reduce that a little. That's 3 year warranty, and they state right in there that they'll cover gray market items.

For another $100 you can add accidental damage coverage too. Not a bad idea if the deductible you'd have to pay on your regular insurance is more than $100.
 
the REAL hacking money could be made - if someone figured out

how to OPEN the japanese bodies, and UPDATE to English menu!

My real person's have told me the 2nd ( oops! ), the 14th/15th and the 23rd of July!

I could maybe live with that. I'm sure my Henry's order will get filled before my shitatron order does. No filming for NY/DC but yes for Chicago and a possible job.
 
You know, I'm really disappointed in the Shopatron service. I felt that Panasonic would make certain that those orders were fairly included in the queue but it seems like none of the Shopatron orders have shipped.

I feel like I was let down by Panasonic, which is a bummer because I love their equipment. Seeing that none of the Shopatron orders were shipped I put in an order at Henry's and I really hope that I get it from them because they've been pretty helpful.

I feel bad for all the Shopatron reps who have to deal with Panasonic's mess.
 
i e-mailed panny direct yesterday about my June 22nd GH1 order and they replied to me today through e-mail stating " The camera is expected to be available around July 21, 2009 for shipment." i leave for iceland the 30th and i have next day shipping; i better get that camera before my trip or i may throw down for a 5d.

We've always been in a basically identical situation. Lol. Yeah Henrys people are so nice.
 
I can't even place order from Panasonic Direct now, the page says back ordered till Sep 09 and add to cart button is removed :crybaby:
