I updated the firmware on my Panasonic GH1 at the following link:
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/dl/gh1.html
At first the camera appeared to function normally, no different than before. When I switched into the Creative Movie Mode, however, the LCD screen dimmed to near black. When I half-clicked the shutter button, the screen would brighten up with the correct exposure, but it dimmed again as soon as I released the button. I tried two different Lumix auto-exposure lens and the got the same malfunction with both. Two of my Custom presets were saved in Creative Movie Mode, and neither of those worked properly either.
After downloading the firmware update file again from Panasonic's website, I compared it to the file I used to update the camera. They were identical, eliminating the likelihood of firmware data corruption.
As a last resort, I tried the Reset function in the Setup menu. I skipped the first option, "Reset Rec. Settings", and used the second option, "Reset Setup/Custom Parameters". This appears to have corrected the malfunction, though of course it erased my Custom settings as well.
Panasonic's website provided zero support for trouble shooting this problem. The owner's manual is no better, has it really never occurred to Panasonic to hire a native English speaker to edit their technical documents for the US market?
