Yes there is.
If you get a Japanese GH1 (which is cheaper than any where else in the world), the menu is Japanese language ONLY.
However, with the Hack, you are able to change the language to any other language.
This makes still shooting much easier, but there is no other advantage.

But aren't people having some problem with the language reverting back on the japanese model?

No, read corresponding thread.
Camera just remembers old language setting in C1-C3 modes.
So, you need to change language for all of this modes and save it.
