GH1 hack always fails

I have a GH1 and have had constant issues getting a hack to work. I have had some luck shooting in 720 but every time I try to shoot in 1080 it crashes regardless of what patch I am running. Also when I update the firmware every time I turn the camera on it asks me again if I want to update the firmware, is this normal or is the hacked firmware not taking? Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or have a recommendation for a reliable patch, I don't need the highest quality possible, just something that is consistently stable. Should I just keep shooting in 720 and forget about 1080 or can I make this happen?

I shoot Mountain Biking, Skiing, Snowboarding, and other action sports so my subjects tend to be moving fast in the woods.

remove the firmware file from your card after you hacked.

Check the sticky threads for further info about which patches to use on your GH1.

If you're mainly shooting high-motion action then I would recommend sticking with 720p, as the sensor is scanned quicker and the rolling shutter effect is less pronounced. Also I have never known 720p recording on a stable patch to crash in woodland scenes, unlike 1080p on true-progressive patches. Plus you get twice the temporal resolution!

There is no perfect 1080p patch for the GH1, but if you want the highest reliability possible I would suggest the lpowell "40Mbps Reliable Playback" or "75Mbps Peak Reliability" patches.
