GH1 focussing issues

I am still struggling with the AF/MF combination. if in AF and with AF/MF set to ON I can lock AF/AE and manually adjust focus while in AFS or AFC....OK.

But as soon as I start filming the AF/AE lock goes away !!

Anybody know why? Any tricks to override this?

This is with the pancake or the stock lens...

yes lock hold, if its off it simply wont lock AF/AE during filming! It simply doesnt make a difference but it also doesnt make sense to me!
Why does AF/AE lock not work ( with or without lock hold) as soon as I am in movie mode???
whats the sense??? Yes smart move= turn on MF but I am in situations where this would be very convenient.....sigh..

Ahhh - now I am with you.

If you start filming with AF/AE locked then it stays locked.... you can remove the lock at any time.

If you start filming without it locked you can't then lock whilst it is recording. I don't know why they did that - but it is a feature of the camera - not a particular problem unique to you.

Here its different: if I lock AE/AF before starting to film I see the AFL lock symbol in the monitor but as soon as I start recording and touch the manual focus ring it turns OFF ! And of course I can not manually adjust focus anymore unless I switch to MF.... I wonder if its the same with yours?
Or it is my user error and I missed some setting?

I found out some time ago that 'AFS' does not 'lock' for film mode. The 'trick' to use the auto focus, is to set the AFS mode, focus, then switch the mode to Manual Focus. That 'really' locks the focus at that point.

I've not used the AE/AF button version of locking.

Yup, this confirms my findings thanks! Too bad that MF means a lot of turns on the focus ring...while with a combination I could work better : correct small changes with MF but slightly hold down the shutter button for AF, all at the same time...

It's on page 52 of the manual. No AF-S for video. My #1 gripe about the GH1.

Yeah... who reads the manual... then when you 'read' the manual, the camera behaves differently anyway...

(see the Adobe RGB vs. sRGB thread... where the manual states the video media is recorded using sRGB only... but people have 'proved' something changes when selecting the Adobe RGB setting...)
