GH1- dilemma of an Indian

Hello guys..

Lumix GH1 is not coming to India before April 2010 (talked to the marketing guy of Panasonic India).Even if it comes,I am afraid the price would not be less than Rs.95K(more than $2000).I have been waiting for this cam for last 6 months.I cant wait anymore... (I know Sony may come up with something better). The retail price in US (Adorama,B&H etc.) is $1299.But my problem is the NTSC code there. The PAL version in UK has 30 min time limit in movie recording and highly priced.Custom and warranty issues also are dogging me.

Is Singapore/Malayasia/Hongkong better option (no recording time limit,PAL& cheaper)?
If I get it from Malaysia, will I have to pay duty here again in India?what would be the approximate duty in India? Do anybody aware of the Singapore price?

Is NTSC 24p/60p is better than PAL 25p/50p?(this is the most important issue for me)

If I buy the NTSC version now, can it be changed to PAL later on?

Is Panasonic giving international warranty for GH1 and at what additional cost?

Please help....

Hi Bob,
normally it's a bargain to purchase in Singapore or Hong Kong.
I certainly imagine that then the customs Indiana makes to pay the taxes of importation but if you go of person to Singapore or to Hong Kong you can transport it with you with high probabilities not to have confrontations to the customs Indiana

your best bet is to get it from malaysia singapore hong kong. Its about 2200 Singaporean dollars last time i checked. you will have to check with custom duty tax on your end on electronic/digital camera gear.

NTSC or PAL good or bad depends on what you are using for ie broadcast or just web. Issues with fluro lighting too. If you want less headache for where you are from just stick with PAL. It is either NTSC or PAL.

You have to make sure to state that you want the international warranty card. It should be no extra cost but you have to remember to ask.

NTSC or PAL? Please explain..

NTSC or PAL? Please explain..

thanks a lot..

I am considering the NTSC version because it's quite cheaper in USA and 24p is more film-like ,also the NTSC 60i is a higher fps than PAL 50i?

Can't we pull down 60i NTSC to 50i for PAL broadcasting?

What about writing DVD/Blueray i.e. a NTSC work to PAL version?

What will be the problem in webcasting with NTSC?

Is the flickering is an issue with NTSC only ?
