GH1 Commercial spot shot on 0.95 schneider 35mm lens

Rough cut, posted.

Lens has slight vignettes, but I think it looks beautiful. Softer than the stock lens, but gives a more shallow DOF (depth of field) and more filmic look. Nice to be able to get some shallow DOF on a 25mm wider FOV (Field of view) lens.

Shot as 1 of 4 videos to come for Karma Studios/ New World Samurai Tattoo shop in Canmore, Alberta.

Cinematographer: Justin Lovell, Toronto.

thanks for sharing this with us. very very nice. was it all artificially lit? Was the wonderful softness all the lens or did you apply grading?

Used available lighting, and sculpted it.
Whenever possible I used natural light coming in from the windows and killed all the tungsten lights inside.

No grading applied, exposed it properly in camera, and balanced to the color temp I wanted in camera.

Nice work. I love the DOF, but the vignetting is a problem for me. Its something I would rather add easily enough in post, and prefer not to have it from the lens.

EDIT: "problem" meaning I will probably avoid using the C mount lenses for the vignetting, not that it was a problem on this piece.

The 0.95 isn't a cheap lens.. They come by every once in a while on ebay.
I have it in the 50mm version as well, but I prefer the wider fov of the 25mm.
I also have a 0.7 version of the 50mm, but it is so honkin' huge that it won't mount on the gh1, or my eclair NPR. awkward on my bolex super 16.

The nice thing about the in camera vignette is that it affects the exposure of the image. Not quite the same when you create it in post. (though you can get pretty close results).

I like a bit of vignetting. It's not always a negative thing. I've seen the 0.95 lenses going for around the £500 mark. It's very difficult to get a bargain c-mount lens which is special.

I like the radial bokeh. It almost gives a full frame look on the GH1.

I wouldnt throw the whole idea of a c-mount lens out the window, there are some out there that will give you what your looking for without all the vignetting. Check this out http://tinyurl.com/bg2lgg. Nice video by the justin, looks good and the vignetting is pretty subtle and gives the video a nice touch.

look beautiful, has a really nice aesthetic to it, colors look wonderful too. good natural lighting can bring the best out of anything you shoot.
what iso were you at? can you post some stuff that's at ur lowest iso possible wide open on the lense perhaps out doors? might produce some amazing results...

Some more still shots with the schneider lens.
