GH1 as travel cam: Downtown Atlanta

Here is another example of the GH1 as a nice carry- on travel cam, run and gun style (I had two hours spare time on a business trip):

I was just using a small size camera bag (which barely fits the GH1 + kit lens) plus a small rice bag as an image stabilization device.

Shot with 1080p24 in manual movie mode (smooth film mode, all settings except color -2), manual WB set to 5500K, ND8 filter using the kit lens.

Timelapse done in photo mode, slowmo with 720p60 slowed down to 24p.

Two screenshots attached.

Have fun, Gunther

Is timelapse built in the GH1?

Dear RogerB1,

no, there is no timelapse feature built in. I was doing this manually by pressing the shutter every 5 or 10 seconds (and using the selftimer set to 2 sec. to avoid disturbing the cam by pressing the button).

best regards, Gunther

There you go, 1080p on the Lumix GH1 IS BEAUTIFUL! If you really know how to shoot you will capture great footage with it. Very nice piece.

Very nice shots! Makes me nostalgic for Atlanta. I still live in Georgia but don't spend as much time downtown anymore (I went to GSU so most of the places you filmed I walked by daily for several years).

Thank you. I always shoot in 1080p mode. The resolution (luminance and colour) is so much better. And you have the option for slow-mo by shooting 720p. Gives you great creative possibilities. Maybe my cam (bought in Japan) seems to be on the better end of the spectrum.

I did not encounter much (if any) of the problems described in this forum (or, maybe I am to stupid to see them ...). BUT I always shoot everything set to manual operation - maybe thats why.

best regards, Gunther
