GH1 and Rode video mic

I am interested in buying a Rhode video mic to use with my GH1 (I intend to plug it directly into the GH1). I learned from this forum that it is a good idea to put a pad between the external mic and the Gh1 so that the signal doesn't get clipped by the limiter. My question is whether the built-in pad of the Rode video mic works the same way.

Has anyone tried the Rode mic directly into a GH1? How well does it work?

Thanks!

My Rode runs hot, so when I have used it I have always had it set to the -20 and then brought it up if needed in post. I haven't done it with the GH1 yet, but wouldn't expect it to handle the "hotness" of the Rode any better than my Panny GS500s did.

On a side note, Blackout shot some clips of Prince in concert and we discussed how surprisingly well the onboard mic and AGC handled how loud he said it was.

I have tried it on my GH1. Totally agree with the above. It works, BUT... Problem is the awful AGC on the GH1, so caveat emptor, YMMV etc. etc.

GH1 in-camera audio recording sucks.

I don't disagree there aren't better ways, but it doesn't suck as bad as some cams I have heard already. I shot this the other night from between 75 and 100' back, and don't know, I don't think a Rode or a Zoom would have done much better.
