Folks,
New GH1 user here, and I am using a Sennheisser ME66 as my external mic. As expected, the built in mic is really crappy. The big surprise is that the ME66 seems only marginally better (due to its directional pickup pattern). I am wondering if this is to be expected and couldn't be improved upon?
It doesn't sound as if the recording is distorted or getting crunched by a limiter, but rather it seems as if the mic is picking up all the sound in the background, even stuff that I thought should be too low to pick up. Could this mean that the audio is being boosted somewhat, which means a pad will be a good idea?
BTW, I am running a y-cable with the ME66, with one line going directly into the GH1, and the other going into an external recorder. Does this reduce the mic output somewhat or degrade the signal?
Anyway, I've already got an external recorder for the important stuff - i am just hoping I can improve the sound that gets recorded with the video enough to make it useful.
