GH1 and GH2 batteries???

I read somewhere, but can not find now, that the GH2 uses a different battery from that of the GH1. Is this true?

If this is true, I hope the GH2 batteries hold more life otherwise I really wouldn't see any point to that other than trying to scam more money out of buyers who already own GH1s.

Yes, the GH2 battery is different from the GH1 (& G2, G10 & GF2) battery. The GH2 battery, charger & AC adapter are discussed in the GH2 user manual & on Panasonic's GH2 product website.

Also, the GH2 battery isn't currently available separately in the US (1 comes with the camera), although that's likely to change soon, I hope!

I do hope they become available soon as shooting with one battery is pretty risky. Gotta love profit margins...

Their only point is to scam more money :-)
It is called capitalism :-)

I just got my GH2 and found to my surprise that it doesnt include a power adaptor like the GH1 where I could use the battery adapter instead of a battery!
Is it correct that this is now an optional item?
PLus the only battery I got now is totally different from the GH1 types and lasts a lot less longer:-(

BOO! -10

That's true. If you check in manual you will see that there is power adaptor. I don't tink you can buy it yet though. And connector on gh2 is strange looking thing on the bottom of your cramera. I like to get one too.

I spent some hours looking for extra batteries worldwide: NONE! Panasonic if you do read this: why is the GH" battery smaller/ less powerful than the GH1? And why dont you provide extra spare batteries for sale anywhere? This sort of marketing screams for cheap knockoffs and a hack! Panny could have done better....

I really think the new battery design was made to offer more security against people trying to use non Panasonic batteries. Basically they must have put far more security measures. It's true that why go through all the trouble if your not easily providing the extra batteries people need. I'm very glad that when I bought the GH1 that I was also able to get a spare battery on the same day. I would have done that to the GH2 since having just 1 battery is really taking a huge gamble especially if you have to shoot an event like I do sometimes.

I bought it yesterday because it was on special sale here @mediamarkt, they had no spare batteries. I was sure my other GH1 batteries would work and was all gee..how lucky....hahaha...the battery lasts barely half the time of the GH1 batteries! Maybe I should return it and get the Voigtlander 25/0.95 instead? I have some days to decide.....this battery policy is very bad marketing policy panasonic!

Just ordered batteries from Panasonic Direct, on backorder

I just placed a formal order for 2 batteries at the NJ parts location. Lady had no idea how long it would take them to be available, but she did take my order and will bill my credit card when ready to ship. I was on the phone probably 20 minutes.
