GH1 and GF1 firmware hack for dummies

Check out the link in my signature for detailed instructions on downloading pre-tested PTool INI files.

Done :)
Is there a PAL alternative for you pre-tested 35Mbps MJPEG In-Camera Playback Patch 720p @ 30fps in 4:2:2 color depth?

Thank you in advance

I've been working on this on and off for a week now. Why am I not able to get the firmware update to take? Suggestions?

Clarification of Panasonic May Release 1.3 Firmware for GH1

Apparently v. 1.32 is the last hackable firmware for the GH1. Does anyone know the full version number of the May 10, 2010 "1.3" update posted on the Panasonic site? Thank you.

The May 10, 2010 "1.3" firmware is the last officially released and hackable firmware update for the GH1, i.e. this is version 1.32.

For french customers another update was released soon after that, v1.33, but this was never released in public. I don't think it contains great improvements from version 1.32 and it cannot be used with ptool.

Never mind...version increment 67 and save as GH1__167.bin worked with both that and prevent version compare checked.

Just to help anyone else that was perplexed, I just received my used GH1-U.S. hackable (WE0A (Jan 2010)) and the user normal menu
stated firmware version 0.0. I've seen at least one reference here that said the first firmware version is 1.1, which I now doubt because viewing the info screens of my camera through the temporary Service Mode said version 0.01:0000. It also said power count 61, shutter count 130, and strobe count 6. In info2, my recently set date was the only one entered (of last 3 stored). Thus it appears that my 'used' camera is very new and firmware version 0.01 is the first firmware installed (probably). For those not familiar with the 'service modes' of the GH1, see this thread: "http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?216575-Service-mode-research" (07-11-2010 03:46 by Path).
A thread search failed to turn-up any other thread relating to "Version 0.0", etc.. Hopefully this post will help.

I'm not sure if your post will be of much help... Did you read any of the information available in the threads specifically dealing with applying the hack or failures while doing so?

Perhaps the fact that your GH1 is hackable and the fact that it shows version 0.01 as firmware version number are related.

I feel smart now..

with C settings with this chart
my bitrate was around 44mbps to 46mbps

MJPEG Settings are the same here but i doing 720 and 422
that was bitrate around 76mbps yo 78mbps

this whole a b c settings does not show up for me with latest ptool. i dl reliability patch and hack functions..but not a b c presets

The initial post in this thread is out-of-date and has not been updated to match the current version of PTool. That is why it is no longer pinned to the top of the forum.

It's been a while since I came here.
Is there a link and the guidance to the current version of PTool for the GH1?
I have a spare hackable GH1 that hasn't been hacked yet.

Thanks

I hacked the GF1 following the instructions by lpowell. Basically I followed the link in his signature:

I downloaded ptool, the original firmware from panasonic and a couple of preset from lpowell.
You will find automatically the preset loaded in the lower buttons on ptool.

Bye

Hacking default shutter speed in GF1 stills

Hacking default shutter speed in GF1 stills

Sorry to impose. I'm not sure its the right place to post.

All these discussion seems to be hacking video limits. I very much wants to change the way which GF1 decides shutter speed in still pictures.

For example in Auto mode, GF1 shutter is always 1/30 unless it is so bright that the ISO drops below 100, then GF1 will start increasing shutter speed. This is very frustrating because 1/30 is too slow. Seems Panny has realize the problem with GF2 and change it to 1/60.

Can i change this in GF1 with a firmware hack?

Question

Question

No matter what I do, the MJPEG HD shuts down with the message "...due to the limitations of the writing speed of the card". I have a 32gb class 10 card in there, what's going on here? I've inputted several different MJPEG settings and get the same result every time.

Also, when using Mediainfo to check the bit rate, for MJPEG it's pretty clear what it is, but for the AVCHD, there are several different bit rate readings. Which am I supposed to look at?

Under 'General' it says:
Overall bitrate - 42.6
Maximum overall bitrate - 56.0

Then under 'Video' it says:
Bitrate - 40.7
Maximum bitrate - 16.6

What means what here?

I'm having kind of a problem here.... (GF1, pTool3.51d )

I did the hack with some options, due to maybe the audio setting i can't playback my videos, and after 2 or 3 times in the playbacksection the camera can't read any of the images and videos.
i tried some different settings but it doesn't find the updated firmware on the SD card!!! (i put in version increment 25 and it doesn't find it, and it wont work with the prevent version compare either....)

what should i do??

(also: am i right that for the GF1 there is no option for AVCHD 1080 24p ? )

thx guys!

Hello,

I've tried to dig out some information about the most recent firmware updates and ptool information but I am still a bit confused.
I downloaded ptool 3.51d from the developer's site. Is that the newest version?

My second question is related to firmware settings. I would need some settings to be bale to shoot 1080p PAL video in very good quality however I would not like to go into extremes. I need something what is stable, proven by many people and the qualty is good.

I hope that photoshooting performance could be also improved soon by a patch to reach the jpeg quality level of Olympus E-PL.
