GH1 720 60P to 24P??

Hello, I read that you can still get the 'film' look by shooting at 720 60p and converting to 24P. Can I perform this conversion with either Adobe After Effects CS5 or Adobe Premiere CS5 Pro ? or do I need some special software? I am on PC by the way. Will this be just as good as shooting 1080 24P right off the bat?

Hello

Go onto Andrew Krammers Video Copilot site...

Theres a whole tutorial about, and a free plug in to do it (just a preset really).

His method is by FAR the best way. Allowing you to set tolerences for when to frame blend and when to pixel blend!

1. No
2. It's because you need to remove the pulldown.
3. Post a sample or elaborate?

2. So this is what I tried. I used Voltaic HD to convert my 1080 footage to 24p. I imported into AE CS5, then exported as QT H264 90 quality at 840x473. Now I also imported my original 1080 file into AE - shows as 29.97 as it should, then exported the same settings as the converted VoltaicHD footage. I played both clips and they both play good and look the same to me. So why even do the pulldown? Is it really based on what footage I shot, indoors, outdoors movement etc?
3. video will be posted soon of the small issues I'm having.

3. Here is the video where you see a bit of issues towards the bottom not for the full clip but more noticeable in some parts:

No 1080p or below video camera can resolve more than 1000 lines of resolution. The difference between shooting 1080p and 720p is no more than a few hundred lines at the most. In reality 720p is close enough to 1080p for all but the largest displays(ie: the ones you use).

I have heard this argument and seen the test chart stuff but I gotta tell ya... whether it's made up erroneousness information or not - the 1080p mode LOOKS WAY way WAY better than the 720p mode. TONS more detail in wide shots and it makes wide shots on 720p look very soft when I do a/b comparisons in detailed areas on the very same scene I would never choose the 720p over the 1080 unless again, I absolutely had to.

Do you ever use the 720p @ 60 FPS mode for slow motion? 1080p @ 24 FPS is not very good for that at all. Playing the 720p back at 40% speed gives you perfect 24 FPS slow motion.

Yes, as I said that is the only time I use the 60p - or when doing news show style stuff, and it is usually for a medium or close up shot which can be upsized to a 1080p timeline.

Hey again, so do you guys have any answers/suggestions on my #2 and #3 questions?

I also read this about Premiere Pro CS5 is it true??

There is no need to remove pulldown in premiere as you stated. create 2 sequences in premiere - 1080 60i (or 30p for that matter) and a 1080 24p seq. drop your footage into one seq. then drag that footage into the 24p seq. use your arrow keys to go frame by frame. in the 60i or 30p seq, you will notice every 4th frame is repeated as it should be, and with no interlacing artifacts whatsoever. now go frame by frame in the 24p seq. viola! no repeated frames - 24 unique frames per second and again no interlacing artifacts.

when you right click on the footage in your bin and click 'interpret footage,' 'remove pulldown' is grayed out because there is no need to do this. premiere knows to do it if its in a 24p seq and will leave it be in a 30p or 60i seq.

couldnt be easier than this.
