Hey everyone - what a day, a friend of mine called me up unexpectedly and asked if I'd run second camera today for a documentary he was shooting. He was shooting on a 5D and I was on the GH1 - he hadn't used a GH1 before and was quite impressed by it, and I certainly liked some of the aspects of the 5D, although I wouldn't trade at this point.
These stills were all shot with a Canon FL 55mm f/1.2, and these shots run the gamut of f/1.2 - f/4, mostly hovering in the f/2 range. This was my first documentary shoot, and these pix have not yet had color correction, although I have started cc and the images look even better with the color correction.
We had no light kit, hence shooting with the fast apertures - this was a very last minute project that a client asked him to do, I hadn't tried actively pulling focus on the GH1 before for rack focus shots, and found it easier than I thought it would be (before now I just locked down and pre-focused, but in this scenario we needed rack focus shots, and it was docu-style so I couldn't really figure it out ahead of time, it was all real-time, and I really didn't run into issues - although in some ways the 55 f/1.2 makes it easier, and in other ways, harder.
