GH1 24fps 1080p stable settings

I have been using a completely stable 24fps 1080p setting for 3 weeks with perfect results. I have filmed in several locations in all kinds of conditions and scenes, without any crashes or errors using this patch. With no limitation to camera setup – using any shutter speed, ISO, OIS, AF, WB, stock lenses or any other lenses, on board or external audio. I use Sandisk Extreme 30MB/S class 10 cards. Video and audio plays back in camera and works perfectly with Avid MC5 and AFX workflow.

Anyone testing these? :-) Too bad that I don´t have GH1 here now ..

@rigs Can you please upload some footage with your settings? :)

Unfortunately, detailed analyses of Native 24p video recordings using cbrandin's Stream Parser have revealed consistent evidence of malformed GOP sequences and corrupted P-frames. What can be misleading is that these flaws may occur in Native 24p videos that on casual viewing appear to have recorded and played back without error. When examined frame-by-frame in a video editor, however, these videos can be seen to pause briefly for the duration of any damaged or empty frames they contain.

While there has been progress recently in identifying the cause of the persistent problems with Native 24p patches, no solution has yet been found that can be relied on to produce uncorrupted video recordings. For more information on this research, see the following link:

I've filmed a ton of clips in 24p and they work fine in my projects. Perhaps they are not perfect, I have not analysed them. But I have not had any clips disappoint me yet.
Here is a link to one of the clips the original MTS file is available for download on vimeo.

Thanks for posting those figures Rigs. And a special thanks to Vitally, Ipowell and Cbrandin for your genius and criticism. I just got my GH1 three days ago and am trying to read all your posts before I hack it. Ipowell and Cbrandin, your analysis and writings are fascinating. Vitally, someone should make a movie about you. Serious respect and appreciation to all of you. You're amazingly generous with your knowledge.

Have you tried shooting foliage or grass with the camera on a tripod?
This will SOMETIMES work for me, but never with the 20mm pancake lens.
And losing the shot and having to remove the battery is such a pain -- not to mention the potential damage a freeze-up might do to the camera (though I haven't noticed any problems... yet).

Anyway, for the time-being, I'm staying with 50i (no 25p native).

well, here's my stable settings...

Native 24p
AVCHD 1080p
FHD/DH 52000000
H 50000000
L 48000000
Overall 50000000

I use these settings all the time on my Sandisk Ultra II Class4 card.

BTW, what happens with "preset bitrate 234"?

It is possible to shoot high-bitrate native 24p with "reasonable" stability. I have been using the following settings since the end of July in both 1080/24p and 720/60p modes without major issues. There is only one caveat -- avoid locked off high-detail wide DoF shots. I can only crash these settings in a controlled test environment. On the second card I have the same settings sans the 24p patch for in-the field emergency patch. Did not have to use it (yet).

i tried both rigs's settings here and your settings svecher... and (as you probably have implied), I got errors with a locked down shot of the Pappas star chart on a 24mm lens.... Lpowell's settings let me shoot it without a problem.

That sounds like a possible problem, I will have to remember not to film any Pappas star chart to use in any productions :)

The chart is just a convenient way to test what shooting a highly detailed locked down scene will be. It's not restricted to the chart by any means : shoot a highly detailed scene out in the field scene locked down on a tripod and it'll happen, as it has to me.

Maybe I have had luck with my film mode setting all set to -2. We do use a tripod 99% of the time. We use a variety of lenses all with ND filters if needed, perhaps those soften the image enough. I have been quite happy with the images I have been getting and hope my luck continues. I just finished a project that was shot with a RED x and the GH1 in 24p and it looks great broadcasted on air.
