GH1 GH advice needed, z-finder, external monitor, or?

I'm looking to find a good setup for my GH1 viewfinder, I'd like to be able to go with a z-finder 2.5x but I've heard the unit puts a lot of stress on the lcd foldout arm and that the gorilla plate blocks the battery compartment, making the z-finder not very ideal for the GH1 especially when the $395 price tag is taken into account. Another option, a small LCD screen seems interesting, but also limiting in situations. I've never used one before so I know very little, would I have to get an expensive one $600-900 or would the cheapo ones I've seen in the $150-250 range work okay?

Are these units to help mainly with pulling focus or are they meant for other things too? Are there other options I'm not considering, and what do you guys find you like to use with the gh1. Thanks a lot.

I have the LCDVF 16/9 specially designed for Lumix GH series and Sony NEX.

It works great for what it is, and not too expensive, this weekend i shot a TV spot using the GH1 and Blackout-Ipowell´s native 24 patch in a beach under a heavy sunny day, work wonderfull, just a little of fog (too hot).

The Varavon Loupe VX for GH series, not available yet

Try to find someone who owns one and test it - you might change your mind about getting one.

Do you mean the I might not want a viewfinder? Since HDMI out on an LCD isn't an option and I don't have the cash for an LCDVF, what else would be the option just shooting with the normal LCD swivel?

The EVF. It's what I shoot with 90% of the time. It's high-res (higher than the LCD) enough to pull focus on the fly. The stick-on-LCD-loupes are a necessity on Canons and Nikons where the optical VF is not possible to use during video takes due to the mirror box but for the GH series I fail to see the point of them.

I think the point is to take advantage of the rotating lcd viewfinder and not break your neck all day. Love the varavon loupe - is there any word as to cost?

Might be, I don't know. If you want to go for a hyper budget solution first, get some +3 reading glasses for $5 (EDIT: ok, maybe $10). I used them back when I shot with 550D and it worked great as long as I looked on the LCD ;)
But you'll get a feeling how the magnified image will look like and can decide if it's worth an investment for you.

Great idea and thank you very much for sharing it. I bought a pair of 2.75x glasses for $9.99 and now I have an idea of what I was going to get with the 2.75x viewfinder, and I don't think I need it just yet. Thanks again for the help.
