GF2 possibilities...hackable?

I tried searching on 'gf2' but wasn't allowed, and could find anything on this new camera, so sorry if I missed other threads.

I noticed that the specs say the camera is capable of 1080p, but I am not sure if that is up-scaled. If it really can do 1080p, I hope it can be hacked for 24 fps. The sensor is older and not great, and it doesn't have lots of controls, but it is tiny and can fit in lots of cool places. It also has the Ex. Tele mode and other cool things. So with a small 20mm pancake, you should be able to do a lot.

Actually the specs say it is capable of 1080i. However, that 1080i is actually 1080p @ 30 FPS psf(NTSC models) encased in 1080i. The GF2 will be an excellent point and shoot video camera with the 14mm F2.5 or the 20mm F1.7 lenses. I wouldn't expect it to work very well with the small aperture zooms though.

Not sure what you mean there. From what I have read, picture IQ is improved over the GF1, and at lower ISOs, it is as good as the GH1 and GH2. For video, you don't need a super large high MP sensor, you just need a camera that can shrink the MP down to 1920x1080 without ruining the picture. Also, I don't think this sensor suffers from the banding problem that the GH1 has.

The GH2 only has a 1 stop advantage in noise handling over the GF1. See thread below for testing results. My understanding is that the GF2 sensor is the same as the GF1 sensor. I don’t really expect a big improvement in noise handling for the GF2.

My GF1 is only usable up to about ISO 1000 and that really isn’t enough to use the small aperture zoom lenses indoors. I hope that their software tweaks will improve the noise handling in the GF2. However, I have my doubts.

Do we know if the GF2 will allow ISO 3200 in video mode or in Auto ISO mode?

I don't think any dslr will produce decent looking video at iso 3200 - maybe apart from one of the nikons

The GH2 can with the right lens and scene. Interestingly the GH2 can go all the way to ISO 12,800 in video(MF mode with Shutter Speed Priority). However, anything above ISO 3200 really isn't usable.

You missed the point. With the 20mm F/1.7 lens and the ext. tele mode, you have 3 focal lengths you can use at F/1.7. All that in a very tiny package. There is now also the 14mm F/2.5 lens as well as all the great legacy lenses that people here use...and all will have 3 different focal lengths you can use (one will only be 720p though).
