GF1 FHD AVCHD Menu Option

Very interested in 1080p out of GF1. In Europe so we don't have pulldown problems and 24p issues.

May I comment on the screenshots a few posts above?

If you look at the "full res" screenshots you'll notice that the 1080p (when you click on the full size link) is still resized to 66%, and the 720p shot is 1280 x 720 which is reported as 98%.

So, the 1080p sample is bound to look awful, isn't it?

As I say, I'm very interested in this and all that's stopping me buying a GF1 is not being quite sure that 1080i @ 50Hz is working properly with GF13 hack (I have downloaded and played with 3.40d).

I don't really care whether it's in a 50i container because if it's 25p it'll just de-interlace to 25p.

Pardon my inexperience and possible naïveté.

Hi
I've just made donation and hacked my GF1(Pal version)with Ptool 3.40d
For now the 1080 25p works good for me with these settings:
Manual Mode
Video Bitrate FHD/SH=45
Bitrate H=31-L=22-Overall Bitrate=44-Limiting Bitrate= 54
GOP size=6
Audio=448
In Patch for Testers:FHD ticked
Remove Encoder Limit checked
Preset Bitrate 1=234-Preset Bitrate 2=540
Overall Bitrate 2=39
With those settings I got in Media info:Maximum Overall bitrate:47.2Mbps and Overall Bitrate:38.7Mbps
No camera playback for FHD 1080p-But Camera playback possible for AVCHD 720p(SH mode)
And I'm really pleased with those settings
(MJPEG settings are untouched)

The GF1 1080 video is interlaced so it never works properly!

Of course but It's easy to de-interlace 1080p25 with Premiere Pro CS4 or FCP
And no major issues to pulldown 24p in Cinema Tools
I'll try to post video later

mpg - Isn't the 1080i/50i video really 25p in a 50i container ?

Even worse! Then sites like youtube will show interlacing artifacts if they do not extract the 25p properly.

Interlacing is never a good thing now. It almost always means quality loss when displayed progressively.

It is possible to extract the original video. The problem is that you have to do that extra step. You can't upload the video straight to a site without processing it first.

Again, in "progressive display" times where bandwidth is not really a limiting factor interlacing is pointless.

You're right. I didn't have this point of view. For now I try to improve my earlier settings for FHD 1080p. My first tests with daylight (or low light )show stable speed rate(Maxi Overall Bitrate is 54 Mbps on Media info). Audio is unfortunately 192 kbps(thats why AVCHD 720p playback is possible with my settings). But I'm not yet fully satisfied. Have you some advices for me ? I read tons of your threads and agree with you that stable settings for usual practice are better than high speed rate.

Last findings during my tests with the 1080/25p with GF1
Pancake 20mm turns good only in Manual Focus(AF isn't recommended in the manual paper)
But the stock Lens (14-45mm) works perfectly in manual and continuos focus

I just noticed really bad moire and artifacting with 080p25 on GF1. Did not notice it earlier. Has anyone seen this before, or is it due to the new ptool ?
I am back to the 25P AVCHD since MJPEG is only 30P. This is annoying as I shoot low light and the AVCHD bitrate is always under 17mbps for 720p25.
Any idea whats happening with 720P25 with MJPEG on the GF1.

REally Strange. I put up a new version of the hack - changed some settings and now 1080p25 at 1/50th AVCHD works like a charm. Nice!

I am flying to Japan tomorrow. I come back on nov 10, and I will post a settings file with 1080p25 settings. I have used the GF1 successfully as a B-cam (well, C-cam really) on a feature I am filming.

Actually I am using 2x GH1s and the GF1 as a backup. For low light wide shots, I borrow a 5D with a Sigma 20mm f1.8. Its all mounted on a thick Alum plate. All cameras have a different focal lenth. Long, medium and wide. This allows me to cut easily.

Now I come back to this thread.I did not save the settings, and the moire and artifacting are back :-(
At this point, 180p30 in mjpeg works well with the anamorphic lpowell settings.

For 25P, it looks like720p25 is the only option, I would recommend lpowell 75mbps performance patch. check the 50->25 and 60->30 options to reduce space on the card. The 60p and 50p options have duplicate frames and its unnecessary storage.
