Getting work at weddings with XL2

Hi,

I have just purchased a Canon XL2 and I am still waiting for it to be delivered. My first step will be to call some wedding planners to get some work. The income generated will pay off my personal loan for the camera.

Does anybody have any pointers for getting work at weddings?

I was willing to do it for free while I get used to the camera.

Hi Paul,

it may be different in Australia, but here in Canada, if you are starting, it's easier to hook up with someone who already has some wedding video experience. They may be looking for a second camera (as in two-camera shoot, not a 2nd AC ;)). Wedding planners are weary of beginners, and there is enough competition in the field that they will almost always give preference to someone with experience and a demo reel. It's a catch-22 (how do you get a demo reel if you can't shoot, right?). I don't have a reason to believe it should be any different in AU.
