Getting weird artifacts on youtube from 7Q footage....

experiment: Same video,
FIRST video - mts file converted to prores from the internal (sd card)
SECOND - 7Q prores converted to prores (same settings as above)

Both were put up on youtube. This it how it looks...

The MTS file holds up pretty good and my 7Q file falls apart like pompeii... (both the city and the movie) ;)

To me, it looks like it's the black level issue. Crush the blacks a little bit and YouTube's compression won't have such a hard time. The MTS video's blacks are darker than the 7Q blacks.
 
There are two things going on here... neither is the fault of the Odyssey. One, the internal card recording is doing a "pass filter" on the noise, effectively removing it from the image and per-conditioning/smoothing it for YouTube, while the Odyssey is faithfully recording the "every pixel is different" nature of the noise/grain. Second, when the Odyssey footage hits YouTube, the compressor that YouTube uses isn't as good at handling the nature of the extremely complex footage and "barfs" up some nasty blocking.

The internal card recording "offers up" less detail and picture information to the YouTube encoder, so it naturally has an easier time of it. If you hunt around, you'll find similar threads on any of the higher quality external recorders, and I remember responding to similar topics on the nanoFlash years back with examples...

The Odyssey is simply DOING ITS JOB of recording every nuance thrown at it, in sharp detail. Unfortunately, with the FS700, you have a very high noise floor that gets smeared over a bit with internal recording compared to a direct stream of info from the raw output. The answer, is noise reduction in post and/or shooting 1/2 to 2 stops over exposed, depending on the subject, to give you room in post to crush the noise into the blacks.
