Getting started on a music video

Re: Getting started on a music video

Looked really good. I love live footage. Who was the band? They kicked ass. That was a bitchin song. Your footage looked good. I'd like to hear from the seasoned pro's on this, but on my computer, it looked as if there good have been more darks or richer blacks. What I mean is, even in the areas that I assumed should be shadowy, it was hazy. NOt like in a cigarette smoke kind of way, but kind of like the contrast on a tv being to high.

Anyway, I'd like to hear what others think. I liked the video though. Felt raw, intimate, club like.

John, I agree with you on the blacks, but I wonder if that's also not partially a function of compressing to Windows Media. I've seen a number of clips of my own which had rich blacks that bleached out when going to .wmv.

Brian, what did you cut this on?

I liked your cuts and angles, even if the concert footage meant the singer's lips were out of sync in a couple of places, but what can you do? Pretty good integration of multiple angles.

I know it's gritty, I know it keeps it real, but I'm not a huge fan of the jittery handheld look. Looked like you lost sight of your subject here and there, though I can't imagine the club crowd helped. That being said, some of your camera motion and even zooms were pretty effective. You seem to have a good natural feel for when you should move.

Or, at least I thought so. Keep pluggin' away.

Nice video. Good job! The camera work could be a little more fluid when tilting side to side, and stable when fixed (use of a quick release monopod could be handy). Some of the composition is well done, and others deserve a little more attention (follow the rule of thirds when in doubt). The lighting is good, and the 2 camera footage are pretty well matched. The edit is well paced, and only a very few cuts seem a little out of place.

The band is called Lennex, they are a local band here in Maryland, that was my first time seeing them, I think they're pretty good also.
The extremely low light level in the club probably had alot to do with the blacks, and I think the compression adds to that a little bit. Thanks for the feedback ;D

Thanks! Yeah, it is quite a challenge to move around in a crowd, especially in a small club like that. I've been editing on Premiere Pro, like I said I'm pretty new at this, but I really like it so far.

Thanks ;D I find the most challenging part so far of editing this video is matching the words of the lips, because bands don't usually sing their songs exactly the way it is on their CD.

That's the best time to cut-away!

The link doesn't seem to work. Have you taken the video of the server?
