GH3 Getting my camera repaired -- any recommendations?

I have a GH3 that I used for a few years. The hotshoe became loose (which I understand is a complaint about the GH3), then the camera completely stopped working. I did a little looking around online, and it sounds like a nut holding the hotshoe on came loose and fell into the camera's circuitry.

By the point the GH3 failed, I had a GH5 and my wife has a GX8, so the loss of the GH3 is not a show-stopper. However, I got to thinking about it and contacted a repair company, which gave me a quote of $158 to fix the GH3. I think that is pretty reasonable, so I'm thinking about it -- $158 for a decent back-up stills camera that uses all my lenses sounds like an okay price.

Before I do that, does anyone have a favorite or recommended repair service for Panasonic GH cameras?

The one time I ever tried to get Panasonic proper to repair something, they charged me $85, and then said the non-focusing lens was unrepairable and offered to sell me a refurb for only 10% over retail.
I’d say your repair company is worth a shot.

Try this phone number 956-683-2905.

I called that number, but there is no indication that it has anything to do with Panasonic or any company that does camera repairs. All I got was a message that said "Leave a message after the beep." I did leave a message, so I'll see what happens.

I would not pay for repairs on a GH3. It was a good camera at it's time but the improvements in the GH4 were phenomenal and those are available used at decent prices. That's the way I'd go.

I wouldn't mind going that route, but it will be more expensive than $158 to get a GH4 body that's in good shape. And the GH3 will mostly be for a backup photography camera, not so much for video. That said, I will sniff around to see what a decent used GH4 costs.
