In my experience the initial learning curve of FCP is a cakewalk compared to Avid. My advice, approach Avid like you've never seen an NLE before in your life. If you try to apply your 'FCP knowledge' to Avid you'll just frustrate the hell out of yourself because the two apps behave so differently. Pretend you are blank slate, be patient, and eventually things will start to 'click' and you'll be good to go.
I found a lot of great Avid advice here on DVXuser. In fact, this forum was a very big reason I was able to learn Avid and finish a few projects. There is always something I don't know--it's a giant program--but I feel I've become pretty knowledgable now. If you post questions here, I'll be one of the people happy to try and share my understanding. I owe dvxuser.
