GH4 Getting great footage with these settings

I spent last weekend with the GH4 shooting footage in Appanoose County, Iowa thanks to director Nick Young of Cairn Productions. The shoot gave me plenty of opportunity to learn more about how the Gh4 performs. In short, it was a joy to work with, and I couldn't be more pleased with the images I'm getting.

I've had the camera for a little over a month, and I'm finally closing in on my preferred Picture Profile and settings. Here they are:

Picture Profile: Cinelike-D
Contrast: -1
Sharpness: -5
NR: -5
Saturation: -1
Hue: 0

Highlights: -3
Shadows: 0

Master Pedestal: 0 (set to -1 to -3 when using vintage lenses or in heavy backlight which lifts the blacks)
Luminance Level: 0-255

I share my thoughts about settings and color correction on my blog here:

In any case, I am falling in love with the GH4.

Lovely footage, I feel like I'm standing in some of the scenes. I'm going to give your settings a run on Florida beaches and sunsets. Thanks for sharing.

You have achieved some of the smoothest cleanest looking skin tones I've seen in videos on these forums. Did you have to adjust much from the look your Cinelike D settings above gave you.

I just got my GH4 a week ago and haven't had a chance to do much with it. Your work above is one heckuva motivator!

I didn't have to do much in terms of skin tones. The camera's white balance is set to Daylight (Sun icon). I think I adjusted it one notch towards magenta. I did add the Lumetri "Cinema 2" Look in Premiere, which seems to alter the tint a touch, but honestly, I think the skin tones look great on the GH4. That seems to be a very subjective thing, as I've read that some don't like them. Check out my blog link for more of my thoughts about Cinelike-D and color correction: http://psch.io/107b4b92c8
