getting error - warning psd ng

i recently purchaced the dvx100a model off ebay (probably not the best idea in the world) new in box. when i began to play around with it, i heard a sound like the lenses were switching, the screen went blurry, then clear and then went black with the error "warning psd ng" flashing on the screen.

i thought this strange and turned the camera off and immidiately went to the web to search out this error to no avail. i went back to the camera, turned it on and it worked fine. a few days later i was actually shooting with the camera and mid-shot, while supported firmly on a tripod, the same error happened. again, i turned the camera off for a few mintues and it worked after i turned it back on.

two days ago i used the camera once more and again, mid-shot, the same error happened.

i have contacted panasonic technical support and the geniuses there told me it was probably because i was not using panasonic tapes... even after i told them about the lens issue. so they were not very helpful.

does anyone know about this issue? how can i solve this problem without taking it back to panasonic? i have a full warantee, however the warantee is in the states and i live in vancouver.

please advise!

Re: getting error - warning psd ng

The manual, on page 55, states:

WARNING
This appears when a problem has occurred in
the camera system.
FOCUS LOCK
(problem with focus operation)
PSD NG
(problem with camera shake detection)
GYRO NG
(problem with camera shake compensation control)

As to why? It does not say. Have you turned off the OIS and tried it for a long period? (BTW, I know what it does but don't know what OIS stands for other than Operator Induced Shake. ;) Perhaps a guru can help.)

Re: getting error - warning psd ng

OIS stands for Optical Image Stablizer, i have not yet tried to use the camera for extended periods of time without that on... perhaps i should try?

thanks for the input!

anyone else?

Josh, You have a problem, mostly because even in the States you may not have a warranty. Most of the folks that sell on Ebay are bringing it in gray, so it is not a clear shot as to where your warranty is located. I do believe you need to take it to a sevice center and have it fixed. Unfortunately this would be a warranty repair, but I think you will end up having to pay for that.

Sorry,
