Getting audio from a lav mic in Stereo?

If I'm using a wireless lav mic plugged into line 1, I only get audio in the left channel. Is there a way to get the audio in stereo? I don't want to use the onboard mic since my subject will be far away.

Just curious as to how it's normally done? Is this fixed in post by copying the left to the right channel so it's balanced?

Plug it into channel 2 instead, and then set both audio tracks to get their source from channel 2.

by putting the mic in the channel two xlr jack you will get the same sound in both channels.

to add to that, you can adjust the sound separately using the two volume knobs.

when i first got my dvx-100a a friend taught me a trick that he used with his dvx-100 and i have found it useful.

i run one of channel's lounder than the other, then in post decide which one i like better and then delete the channel i didn't like and copy the preferred channel to the newly empty one.

sounds silly i'm sure, but it is a great way to recover from the audio being too loud or too soft.

and of course to have true stereo you would need two (preferably identical lav's) many feet apart pluged into separate channels.)

Depends on your definition of affordable. A superb and eminently affordable lav mic is the Countryman EMW. Goes for about $179 at B&H. Feature film quality, at a comparatively tiny price (as compared to shotgun mic's).
