Getting a SD signal out of the EX1 (not EX1r) through the firewire connector

I need to get an SD signal out of the EX1 for a switcher I'm using. It only does SD. Is the firewire signal SD or HD? If it's HD only, is there a way I can get a cheap A/V to Firewire converter cable/box?
