Getting a DVX100b and a DVC30?

I'm looking to get 2 cameras for doing some weddings and other stuff.

I really don't need 24p, I'm going to be shooting 60i pretty much. Will video match up good with the DVX100b and the DVC30? Are they close?

Any suggestions? I have about $6k to work with? I figure I could get a DVX100b, DVC30, and Wireless mics (Azden 2 channel)..

Ok. thanks..

This would still not be a good idea if I'd be using one for my wide shot (bride, groom, priest) and one for misc shots (close up, guests, rings, the kiss, vows)? I would be pretty much only using the DVC30 during the ceremony of wedding and using only the 100b during the rest of the day.

Let me know. As I would like to purchase them soon. Thanks

The DVC30 is a great camera. It should match up pretty well for what you are doing. It also has a 16x zoom, which is good for DOF shots. Scene files, though not as robust as a DVX, are good.

i own both of these camera's. They match up OK..not perfect but with some post editing they look pretty good together.
the dvc30 has a cool night vision feature that works great

i will stand corrected.. if you guys can match those puppies up together, then the extra features the dvc30 has might be of value to you.

Will anyone notice? Besides you guys on this board. It would take a trained eye to notice the difference? Right?

Ok... here is exactly what I'm thinking.. (let me know if you think it would work.)

DVX100b - Wideshot of The Ceremony on a Tripod. And then using the 100b During the reception (they tend to have less lighting, I figured the 100b would be the best bet.)

DVC30 - I'd be holding this on a steady cam during the reception getting shots of them smile, there hands, exchanging the rings, their kiss, the guests, and so on.

Instead of just matching them up, should I just get 2 DVC30s w/ the XLR inputs? I wanted the DVX100b for my other projects that only require one camera for the highest quality... Will it be too much of a pain to match them up, is it that pretty easy in FCP?

Thanks everyone... I love this board.. You guys rock.

Hello sirdna,

If you decide to pick up a DVC30, check in with us. We have one in B-Stock. Since it's B-Stock we can get you a really good deal on it. We are also pushing the DVC30 IR package. It comes with a DVC30, an extra battery, an IR Panel, a hardshell case and a $200 rebate. We also have a shipment of B-Stock DVX100A's coming in soon.

The DVC30 and the DVX100A match up good. It's suprising how well they do match. The insides are completely different. So I would agree with everybody else.

even though i never did direct comparisons, the difference may show up a little in low light.
In strong outdoor light, shooting interlaced, the common audience can't tell a 3ccd from a 1ccd amateur cam. personal experience. I personally edited together these kind of shots and it's hard to tell unless you're looking for it and have a trained eye.

dvc30 is supposed to behave good in low light, so i dont expect a real difference between the two, when shooting interlaced, even indoors.

Obviously 2 dvc30 would do the work great. but remember that it needs xlr adapter (extra $$$) for balanced audio input, and that a smaller camera is usually more shaky handheld.

I'd personally keep the DVX100, not two 30's--They are a great combination--different strengths for different shoots. And, I agree, the untrained eye will not pick up on the difference if your editing is average to good.
