Getting a DV editing deck: Sony or Panasonic?

Right now I use a cheap dv pana. cam from best buy to capture. But I use it A LOT and have had enough audio problems that I'm thinking it's time to get a proper DV editing deck. I shoot for both business and my own projects.

The question is: Do I go with a Sony DSR-11 or a Pana. AG-DV2500 or something else?

My Specs are:
DVX-100B
17" Powerbook
Final Cut Pro 4.5 (yeah, I know it's old)

Looking for some opinions before I go spend all this money. Thanks.

I've been using my JVC BR-DV3000 for years and LOVE IT! It can do AC/DC, NTSC or PAL, can do full size DV tapes or minis with no coverter, has a remote, and can do a controller, has firewire and analog ins and outs, can take an external mic, and just for fun, can read DVCam mini or full size tapes (but can't write them).

One of the best purchases I've ever made.

The Panny and the JVC are almost exactly the same thing.

I have the 2500 and its awesome.

The panasonic usually runs about 200 bucks more than the JVC.

hmm i always use consumer cameras to capture dv footage and never had an issue

r u reuising your tapes?

Definitely not reusing any tapes. I've had a weird problem of the audio on some tapes playing fine and most having static/dropouts and such. Pretty sure it's not my DVX because it's happened after shooting a live show when I changed tapes without shutting down DVX and one tape will play fine but the other won't.
Just feel it's time to upgrade because I'm getting ready to be using it more than before. You think otherwise?

Ive heard/read good and bad things about the panny deck but ive never heard/read anything bad about the dsr11.

A $200 difference in the JVC and Pana. Is the Pana. worth that $200 in anyone's opinion?
It's the same deck, just a different color. It's made by JVC.

(and it's a dog. I wouldn't recommend that deck. I had one, I've experienced and heard lots of horror stories about dropouts, I know of one territory of Panasonic that even refused to sell it because of reliability issues. I'd say pass.)

Thanks for the info on the Pana. Sounds like a 50/50 chance of getting one without problems. Don't want to take my chances.
Barry & bilgami, what do you use? Thanks.

The DSR11 is more robust and gives more options (writing DVCam) than the Panny. Also allows better control over it's functions (over firewire, gives perfect frame by frame control), and you'll really notice how much better it is than using a camera for playback and recording - after all it's designed to do those specific functions.

$1250 for a Sony HVR-M15U? Seems pretty cheap considering they're $2150 new at B&H. I'm leaning more towards the DSR-11 at the moment. Hoping more people will give some input on what they use.
