Get Ready to Upload

Like i said above, the only way to get H264 QT on Windows is QT Pro. Maybe Vegas 7 has it...but I don't think so.

This is making me a little cranky...
The Sony mp4 looks like a.. I have attempted to increase the file size by every way I could find. However, teh titles look all fuzzy and the images are still pixing badly. Even tried to import an mpeg 2 and turn it into a mpeg 4. Didn't get anythign but a file for vegas to read. Gettign frustrated. The wmv files are only 34mb and they look great. The 40 mb files from the m-4 h.264 render look awful.

Thanks.... Got it figured from Apple's website. Looks like i'll have to go Pro for the submission.

yeah, sucks. Last fest I was able to create H.264 mpeg4 files with sorensen, but the preference is QT, so you're stuck shelling out to Apple...

Anyone ever track down advice on exporting to mpeg2 from FCP (HD 4.5)?

I went back and reviewed all the HorrorFest uploading posts...found a lot of so-and-so will post instructions on doing mpeg2 from FCP - - but haven't (yet) been able to find an actual tutorial. Saw that the link for bitvice was no good and actually went to the site and verified it myself...

Got into Compressor from FCP, went into pre-sets, and now see a bunch of options for mpeg exports. Not sure which to use ("mpeg2 60min high-quality encode widescreen", etc.) - - help?

There ain't much to it. Use a medium bitrate of 6.2. Make sure to use the best motion estimation and double pass.

  1. use compressor to output an mpeg 2 (it will say .m2v and the audio will be seperate) Select best quality 16X9 DVD setting
  2. find and download a program like BitVice Helper or ffmpegX to MUX or stick the audio and video together.
  3. you are done

Some of you are done and ready to upload... hopefully by the end of the day ill get the server up.. in the meantime you can prepare your files.

Here is what you need to upload:

1 Zip file containing the following named : username-realname-filmname.zip

1 Quicktime 16:9 h.264 less than 40mb.
1 Mpeg 2 (for the DVD) in 16:9 ratio either audio embedded or audio and video file
plus any BTS or featurettes or extended versions.

so.. when we upload does all the files (quicktime, mpeg 2 etc.) have to be in the zip? or do we upload them separately? sorry if its a dumb question, I've never made any zip files before and this is the first time encoding everything.. just trying to clarify everything up before hand.

1 zip with everything in it. your h.264 (which will be for festival viewing), your mpeg2 (which will be for any potential dvd), and any bts stuff you want (also for dvd)

There is a FREE program that will create h.264 MOV files on a PC.

It is called SUPER and you can find it at http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

I use it to convert FLV videos to MPEG4 that my phone will play. I've used it a couple times to make small H.264 videos and it seems to do a good job.

Sweet, thnx, wish I'd known about this in HorrorFest. It seems to create good looking H.265 QTs and has a lot more options to configure than the QT pro.

Thanks much dude. I just could not have bought QT Pro in time for the submission. This really helps. I dont mind paying for softwares... but many such softwares can one really buy??? There is just no end.

Tex, I can give you what I use out of PP2.

2 pass VBR
Lower Bit rate: 7mbps
Med Bit Rate: 8mbps
High BR: 9mbps
Progressive Scan

But I also use CCE, I output a raw AVI from PP2 and dump it into CCE and do a 9mb VBR 6 pass. My 24 minute short output a 1.1gb mpv file and a ~600mb wav.

For HorrorFest there was a max 400 pixel width. I notice no such constraint this time...just has to be <40mb...is this correct?
