Get another dvx100 or something else

I've got a dvx100a with about 900 hours on it, and need a second backup or new primary camera. Under $3,000.


Do event video, weddings, reunions, etc.


I love the dvx, but i see 2 future issues:

1. Customers getting their product and saying, why isn't it 16:9?
2. Why isn't my dvd i paid for in HD format?


I expect to keep and use whatever i buy for about 2 years.


I looked at the GL2, which is now under 2,000, the sony 170, and others, just don't know whether to go HD....


Also, if i shoot with the dvx and an hd, can these be mixed in Premiere pro?

With the current rebate the A1 can be had for $3250, or used for nearly 3k. The FX1 or FX7 doesn't shoot progressive and wouldn't intercut well.
 
mixing hd and sd is possible.....but the results really stand out. I'm kinda in the same situation as you. Its time for me to add another cam to my collection. Part of me wants to just go out and find a used dvx somewhere, but another part loves the xh a1 and would get that in a heartbeat. Unfortunatly, money is always the deciding factor, and upgrading th hd is not only getting the new cam, its also upgrading your comp, getting new programs, and dealing with this hddvd/blu ray crap. It's really a pain in the ass.

I think that you can shoot 4:3 with the a1, so probably it would be best to get that, even though it might be an extra 1,000 over your budget. Its certainly better investing in the future rather than taking a step backwards with cams like the gl2 and pd-170.
