Gentlemen I need advice,

Like most on this forum I did some thorough research before I pieced together a complete production package - I opted for a HMC150 and Sony Vegas Pro9 64 bit, knowing that I needed a monster rig in order to edit AVCHD (AVCCAM ?)

RIG: Pt6 Deluxe v2, i7 920 (running steady at 3 GZ), 12GB ddr3 1600mz corsair ram, 1TB 7200 HD, and HD5770 graphic card. WIN7 64bit - system is smoking fast by all measures.

Yet Sony vegas stutters and coughs when playing back MTS files once joined on the timeline - transisition being pure missery. I picked Sony Vegas because of its ability to natively edit AVCHD, while reading tales of laptopped dual core machines accomplishing that smootlhly on half the ram I got. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

What am I missing here ?

1) Is the problem that the panny version of the AVCHD codec is still not fully supported by vegas ? (running build 9.b)

2) Are their some "aha" setting either in vegas or on the HMC150 that will smoothe things out.

3) Should I stop the grieving process and just purchase Cinneform and never look back ?

Thanks for your HMC150 workflow insights ! Cheers, Tom

Hi,

I have the same i7 920 (oc 3.2ghz) gigabyte ex58ud5 mobo, only with 6gb ram and nvidia gf260 gpu, also with W7 64 bit, and I edit and preview native 1080p highest bit rate avchd totally smoothly (Premiere CS4), even with 2 files playing simultaneously in split screen or similar.

I know that premiere and other apps use nvidia gpu's cuda drivers that help playing back avchd a lot, but still I believe that your computer should be more than capable of chewing avchd.

I know this is not exactly an answer to your questions but hope it helps narrowing the problem a bit.

Do yourself a favor and get Edius 5.5 (a free download for Edius 5 users) due out at NAB. 5.5 adds the native AVCHD editing that Edius' light version Neo Booster already has. I can do 4 streams in realtime, and that is real world editing and full frame full resolution output.

I'm running Vegas 9 Pro with the i7 950, 12 gig of ram...and have no problem editing native with 4 streams, titles and all kinds of audio.

I believe Vegas is up to 9c....

Not full frame rez. Edius doesn't degrade the quality. Makes it MUCH easier to actually see the effects and CC.

Just sayin'

...and ZaZaCast that mts right out of the HMC150 ?

Did upgrading to 9c help in that respect ? and did you at some time experience the problems jittery playback issues I have, but then changed some menu settings ?

If I dont resolve the issue by upgrading to 9c - I'll start using cinneform until I figure out whats going on.

Thanks for your answers !

I've only had 9c and I'm running windows 7 64bit...so I can't say.
I have never had any jitter problems.

I pop the card out of the camera...into the SD slot on the desktop...copy the complete folder to my work drive (eSata external 1Tb)... pull the files into my Vegas project and go. Very easy... very simple.

Yes.. best (full) quality preview... no problem what-so-ever... effects, CC..everything.

Really... Just try Booster. If you think Vegas is good, give Neo 2.5 booster a shot. There are Vegas 9 converts over in the GV forum that rave about how great it is compared to Vegas. Vegas only beats it in audio editing.
