HPX250: Genlock/Sync Questions

I think P2 is a great concept, but they forgot about us event guys. If Panasonic could include AVCHD for the times when you do need the record time P2 would hold a lot more value to me.

Been begging them for that since day one... I will admit it's not NEARLY the issue today, that it was back when the biggest card you could get was 8GB! And no AVC-I50 either... those were more challenging times. But yes, I very much encourage them to put the new AVC LongG codec on the new AVC-Ultra cameras; that's a 10-bit 25mbps better-than-AVCHD codec that they've developed, which would give even longer record times. I am optimistic that they will. Heck, I want them to include the ability to write that to SDXC cards in addition to P2, so a P2 camera can be either. Ultimate flexibility.

This sounds promising but also a concern for current HPX-250 owners. Can the new AVC Ultra Long G or Proxy be upgraded via firmware or pretty much I have to get rid of the HPX-250 and buy a replacement model that supports the new AVC Ultra codecs - LongG and Proxy?

Barry, is there any way for Panasonic to add AVCHD to exisiting cameras like the HPX-250 through a firmware update? I am guessing no...?

This camera choice is a tough one for me. I would rather go with the HPX-250 but it will be quite a bit more expensive with 2 64Gb P2 ($1,400) & a Nanoflash with cards ($2100) just to get timecode sync. I did another dirft test today with a Varicam and an HMC-150 and the HMC-150 lost about a frame every 10 minutes. So if I expect the AC-160 to be similar, is 1 frame per 10 minutes worth saving or spending $4,000?
