Generic Gels?

As an often no-budget kinda guy I'm always on the lookout for a filmmaking bargain. Rolls of gel are pricey for me even though there are times when some ND or CTO on windows would sure do the trick.

So some guy on eBay is selling off 91 rolls for local pickup in LA. He says: "This is a generic brand, it is the same as Lee or Rosco make."

Okay, somebody here has got to know about these generic gels. Any info greatly appreciated.

(And I know gels are hard to make and an Asian- or whatever - knockoff might not be as good. Then again...)

Lee a Rosco make their own gels. So it can't be "the same" .. they can of course be similar .. but that's different.

An eBay generic? Maybe I'm just angry at some of the "less than perfectly represented" products I've gotten from eBay, but I would say imagine the worst thing that could happen when you put a gel you don't know about onto a hot light.

Fumes, melting, combustion come to mind.
