General Q about HVX200

I'm looking to do a multicam shoot for a cooking video and wanted to know the following about this cam (or if you know of a cam that does this):

1) can i link 3 of these same cams with a wire and share settings and timecodes?
2) can i record to miniDV tapes?

i'm not looking to deliver the content in an HD format. just using HD for quality and then res it down to SD so it all fits on one DVD.

Sam,

You can share settings through swapping an SD card or just adjusting on each cam. You can synch timecode with up to 3 or 4, I forget, HVXs through synching the timecode off one of the remotes. Bring them all together, press the button and bingo synched to within one frame, but make sure you power down and don't let the battery go or you'll loose the synch. You can record to mini DV, but only mini DV. If you wanted to downconvert, you'd have to shoot to HD and then convert it in the camera. I personally think that you'd want to shoot in HD or DVCPRO 50 and then convert in post...

Good luck and let us know how it comes along!

You can record to MiniDV tapes.
I am pretty sure you can share setting via firewire. Someone else should confirm this -- I've never actually tried with the hvx.

You can use an SD card as already mentioned to share camera settings and scene files.

Synching multiple cameras, however, is basically impossible on the HVX. They have a setting for it, but its so broken I still wonder why they even bothered to leave it on. When you switch modes on the HVX (which you must do at least once in order to sync them) it be off 1-5 frames from the master HVX. I find this to be unacceptable for any kind of real multi camera shoot.

If you need real time sync you are better off with the XH-G1, or XL-H1 from Canon, or a JVC HD250 (I think there was an HD100 version that had timecode sync, was it called the 150?). I don't know if the EX-1 from Sony has timecode, but I don't recall seeing a bnc for it when I played around with it.

I love my HVX but i just hate this "feature"
