Gen Lock a Projector to a Camera for HD Telecine of Super 8

I'm trying to work on my own Real-Time Telecine system to transfer Super 8 film shot @ 24fps to HD video. I was considering using a Canon T2i but if anyone had a camera suggest that shot at 24fps or 23.976fps I'd love to hear it.

Here is my problem. I found a company in Germany that makes transfer components for old Bauer projectors. They supply a sync component that will genlock the projector to the speed of the camera, provided the camera can output an analog speed. This is great for people who work in PAL, since the analog output is 25fps regardless, but in the United States, even with a camera recording at 23.976fps, isn't the camera outputting an NTSC analog signal of 29.976?

They tell me the analog NTSC signal will resolve for 20fps, so I'm thinking of getting a T1i and just accept 20fps is the fastest I can transfer and I'll have to fix it in post. But I'd love if there was a solution to my problem. If you have solution I'd love to hear it.

I just did something like this. I synced a Panasonic HPX-170 to a projector. I first found the running speed of the 16mm projector (the footage was 18fps and the projector has a knob for variable playback) by changing the shutter by small amounts until the flicker was all but gone.

I chose the HPX 170 for the quality but also because it is a global shutter progressive frame. I did not try it with a DSLR, but I'd be wary of rolling shutters when doing something like this. You should try it and report back, but I foresee issues.

Thanks for the response. I was actually referring to a Gen lock, not an estimate of the speed. We you able to Gen lock the projector to that camera? I'll let you know what I discover if I am able to find the right equipment for Gen lock.
