Well, we have finally shifted to HD at my job and the 500 along with 4 32gig cards, the new Firestore, Vinten tripod and a New wiged out MacPro will be here next Thur. Iam really looking forward to this.:2vrolijk_08:

Congrats John! It sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun ahead of you!
Which Vinten did you go with? The Vision 6? I used that with the SDX900 and it was great (though, I would have liked to have better sticks -- was using Slik 207... yuck!)

I will have to double check on the Vinten model. Yeah, Can't wait to test it all out. Also have a Panny 1400 deck and the 5 slot P2 deck.

Damn, sounds like a nice amount of gear. Whats up with the new firestore? Which one is it?

I have the Vinten 8 system and I really like it. I do really wish the spreader was up off the floor though. That would be my biggest complaint with it.

Have fun. I would love to have those 4-32's.

The firestore is the new 160 gig HD. The console for the Mac system which is going to have 3 TB of storage, 2 Apple 23in monitors and the new JVC 24in HD monitor for program is going to sit on this.. http://www.tbcconsoles.com/smarttrac.htm The console can be elevated to various heights with a push of a button. SWEET.
The P2 card reader and the Panny HD deck will be rackmounted in the console with 2 M-Audio spkrs and a amp for playback. Software loaded is Final Cut Studio, CS3, Sorrenson Sqz and Raylight. I have to run back into work tomorrow, so I will grab my paper work with all the other goodies listed and give you all an update.

Nice desk. I ened up buying the 30in and using a samsung 22inch as well for my system at home

I really like the way the monitors mount and adjustments that can be made. Cables are nice and tiddy on the back of the unit. You can stand and edit if you like.

Yeah those professional desks are the way to go in a studio environment. Would love to get something like that for the home office, but not enough room in my 10' x 10' office.

Yeah, My son and I built his console a few years ago for his Mac. We found some console drawings and pics online and bought the material at Home depot. Saved quite a few bucks going this route and it looks pretty good. I think the TBC system that we got from the previous link was aprox 6K. It has a few extras like rolling rack end tables for additional gear to rackmount.

Brad,
The Vinten model is the Vision 100
Two-Stage CF Pozi-Loc Spreader
Soft Case (3340)
Vinten Telescopic Pan Bar and Clamp for Vision 100 & 250 - Black
Vinten ENG Studio Dolly (100mm wheels, cable guards, track locks)

Octagonal Thermoplastic Case for Vision 3, 6, 8, 11 & 100 Two-
Stage ENG Tripod Systems

Here is a partial list of gear to come..
I wish we would have gone with a RR matte box or Cavision over the
Formatt but hey, I guess I will have to put up with it.

I will give you some info on the 2 FlyPaks that will be here in July. They are equip with 4 Panny cams. Both FlyPaks are fully HD ready using a Broadcast Pix video switcher.

It hooks into the VF hookup which only feeds Black and White SD video.

wow no HD out of the VF that's weird...
Most HD cams don't give you HD out of the viewfinder anyways because there are no viewfinder sized screens that will display HD. Some have higher resolution than others, but until you get up into the larger screens, the resolution is just not there.

Also, in most instances (even on the ESPN HD trucks I have worked on), almost all of the monitoring is in SD, not HD. All you need to do is see the image for composition, color, and to make sure it is in focus. A complete HD monitoring solution would be insanely cost prohibitive. You can get SD LCDs and controllers in the $200 - $300 each range, whereas a high quality monitor with HD-SDI will be in the $1000 - $1500 range, and that's all if you built them. Complete solutions from companies like Panasonic and Marshall will be 2-4 times that.

Nice little system you're putting together there, JohnT. What made you go with the broadcast pix switcher? Which model are you going with?

We are currently putting our flypack together based around the Ross Vision MD series of switchers, but with a similar camera setup (500's) for sports and corporate broadcast work.

Yeah I am really interested in your flypack.

By so how many viewfinders is that all together and what the pixiel to pixel thing.

The last truck that I worked on had mostly SD monitors in the B unit that was being used for graphics. We had 3 HD monitors that displayed Program.

The A unit however had all HD LCD's throughout.
