GANDHI - Screen Grabs

Just got the DVX100a a few weeks ago, just in time to film a short on Gandhi for a history class assignment.

We had to use a Gandhi quote and connect it somehow in a movie, so it's about a hypocritical Indian friend of Gandhi who kills a British soldier even after preaching nonviolence. I used the tracks "Gortoz a Ran" and "Leave No Man Behind" from Hans Zimmer/Black Hawk Down, and it fit nicely.

I would upload the video, but I don't have a host.

I'm only 14 btw, I still have a lot to learn!

Grabs 4 and 7 are the best. Its looks really good actually........being 14 my first short........wasn't good.......at all.

I'm interested in seeing it, I hope you find a host.

Man i'm impressed beautiful work I started my filming days when I was 7 with stop and go motion on my legos then I made a couple of funny skits but quit when I was like 12 or 13 at 14 I started flash animation you can see at www.oasiswebs.net believe it or not I made that back when I was 14. Now at 20 I'm back at filming. for being 14 I can tell you you have an eye for composition and you got a wicked depth of field shot on #4. For number 5 I know you probably wanted to get that same DOF but the DVX makes that difficult so here's what to do. Zoom all the way in and open your iris all the way up This will blow the picture out so employ one of the ND filters if necsasary. Now that you've done that walk as far back from the subject until you have the entire shot you want in the frame. Now focus. You may think it's a little crazy but It works check out my Worst Case Scenario short, I did it in many of those scenes. Also be sure that if there's dialaogue in that scene your using an external boom mic because: camera w/ internal mic far away = crappy audio. Want to see more! You can host your video up to 10 megs at www.putfile.com! Look forward to seein some work in motion!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Well, the good news is that I got an A+ on the project, but it was a struggle to set it up. The DVD player in the classroom couldn't play the film, freezing on frames and not playing correctly, until I borrowed another player from a class and it worked. Any ideas on why this happened? Was the first DVD player unable to play progressive or 24p?

Well done. Youve got some nice compositions. Are you lighting at all? That could be your next step if not. And props being 14 and starting. If you love film making, keep it up.

wow kid, you have a pretty good eye for a 14 year old. You're not M. Night's little brother are you? :)

very nice shots! Post us some video.

The DVD problem, at what speed did you write the disc ?
Try to NEVER write faster than 4x, but stick to 2.4x if you can. And also was the disc + or - media?

Yeah, I'm guess I'm lucky to start at an early age, I've also started a filmmaking club at our school (which unfortunately has nothing at all in this field), and an intern at a local television station. My parents are hoping I'll make them money in the future, that's why they helped pay for the DVX :engel017:

I hoping to get some kits in the future, but as for now all I've used are 2 chinese lamps and 2 flourescent lights for the indoor shots, as well as a huge window for natural light fill. And all the outside shots were just natural light, it was sunny.

I'm pretty sure I wrote it at 2.4x, but as for the + or - I've already turned in the DVD, so I don't remember. Which one are you supposed to use?

I working on uploading the video, I'm either going to use Google Video (if I can) or find somewhere where I can get it for free.
