Gamma Curves

I have a DVX100a, what are the gamma curves on this? Does it have cine like gamma curves? Where can I see the S shape?

Can't see it in camera, as far as I know, but I believe the S shape is what the cine-gamma setting simulates.

You have three CINE gamma options on the DVX100A: CINELIKE, CINELIKE_D, and CINELIKE_V.

CINELIKE actually more or less simulates the straight part of the film response curve. Film has a smooth roll-off of shadows and highlights, but it has a very long straight part of the curve in the middle. CINELIKE captures this part of the curve, and it doesn't have the widest dynamic range because it doesn't smoothly roll off the shadows or highlights.

CINELIKE_D is for dynamic range. It captures the widest range of all gammas. If you are shooting in harsh sunlight, this gamma is a must. In other situations, it may look a bit flat, but can be fixed in post.

CINELIKE_V has a nice S-curve to it and builds in more contrast than either of the other modes.
