Games that feel like movies

Wow, I completely forgot about Half Life and Metal Gear Solid. I can't wait for Episode 3 of Half Life, though Valve has been super tight-lipped about it. Not even a hint of a release date.

Seems to me.. that games are now splitting into two distinct categories. The indie style games that are more about play experience (gameplay) and the big blockbuster games that are more about an experience (story driven).

Games are really starting to come into their own.

But back to the OP.

Uncharted 2 absolutely blew my socks off. The first game I thought was a great experience.. the second game though, was far better than most of the movies I've seen in the past few years.. great writing, acting, story, graphics, sound... it's all there..

just some more off the top of my head..

Halo series..
Half-life series (hurry valve and release episode 3 already!)
Metroid Prime series
Zelda Series
MGS Series
God of War

I get the impression Valve takes the "It'll be done when it's done" approach... which is fine with me.

Hopefully they'll release the Portal sequel they're working on with it too.

I agree with a lot of the games previously mentioned: Metal Gear Solid series, Bioshock, Halo series, FEAR 1 & 2.

Uncharted 2 is great. Probably the best game I've ever played, or at the least one of the top 3 ever. Yeah, its that good.

Some other ones:

Resident Evil series -- not a huge fan of the newer style RE games, but the series has overall had a very cinematic feeling and presentation

Mass-Effect-2-Boxart.JPG

Mass Effect -- an RPG with pretty nice 3rd person shooter mechanics, that has very well blocked cutscenes where the player basically controls the dialogue = awesomeness, and the sequel comes out near the end of January

Box-Art-Face-Off-Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-vs-Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-2.jpg

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -- that ghillie suit level was so freaking suspenseful

Gears2box.jpg

Gears of War 2 -- had some great sequences with an epic scope, reminded me a bit of Lord of the Rings with machine guns

GTAIV_PS3_boxart.jpg

GTA IV -- has a really deep storyline that cleverly satirizes American culture

fallout_3_box_art.jpg

Fallout 3 -- mainly the V.A.T.S. (Vault-Tec - Assisted - Targeting - System) replays, which feel very much like action or horror film "money shots"

killzone-2-box-art.jpg

Killzone 2 -- some of the best graphics, sound design, and musical score really puts you in the experience of a gritty future interplanetary war
check out the epic opening cut scene, but if you do you'll want to play it right now -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2-swSqw2pY&feature=related

Dragon Age: Origins -- comes out next Tuesday, should be very cinematic since it is from Bioware who made Mass Effect

I get the impression Valve takes the "It'll be done when it's done" approach... which is fine with me.

Hopefully they'll release the Portal sequel they're working on with it too.

At least we've got Left 4 Dead and its upcoming sequel from Valve. Gotta love blasting some zombies.

Alpha Protocol is this new RPG FPS espoinage game. While I'm not sure how "cinematic" it is, it's a game that's focused on immersing you into a story that you change. It's not a simple "chose path a or path b" game, but every line of dialogue, every action has a different outcome. Also with an interesting dialogue system, even the conversations you have can change the outcome (say if you get someone to trust you, or a girl to go to bed with you ;))

I hope it's good, and seems to be all about bringing you into the James Bond and Jason Bourne world of espionage.

I can't believe that Resident Evil 5 isn't in here.

Still haven't gotten Uncharted 2. Trying to finish up a script before I get back to games. =( I heard I'm missing out on some serious fun.

Well I don't know how many people here play video games, but are there any games that you guys feel give you a cinematic experience.

Personally I can't help but feel like I'm playing through a movie when I play Uncharted and Uncharted 2 for the PS3. The writing, the graphics and THE SCORE! I could drool over that score.

outstanding games. i recently played through both of them and was blown away by how good they were.

if anyone wants to play some multiplayer or do some machinima, go ahead and add me. my ID is ugafan09. but be warned, i die frequently. :)

Battlefield 1942, Desert Combat and Forgotten Hope

Have had some awesome moments that felt like some gnarly Hollywood film.

Also Resident Evil, the first few games. Some creepy movie like moments.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill, Assassin's Creed and a couple of oldies offa the PC and PS1, Ghost Recon and G-Police I and II.

Another Half Life fan.

I liked playing Splinter Cell but, meh, it would make a boring as hell movie. Good game though.

//Ghost Recon was my favorite online game. I don't know how that would transpire into a movie, but, maybe with a good script.
Many hours playing that one online. 2 years solid anyways.

+1 for:
Halo(s) currently wrecking Reach. the online is badass...
Arkham Asylum
MGS
Bioshock, was not to impressed with BS2
Fallout 3 for a game that didn't have to many cinematics, It was nothing short of epically badass.
Assasins Creed looked great, but got way to repetitive about 1/3 into it
