Games that feel like movies

Well I don't know how many people here play video games, but are there any games that you guys feel give you a cinematic experience.

Personally I can't help but feel like I'm playing through a movie when I play Uncharted and Uncharted 2 for the PS3. The writing, the graphics and THE SCORE! I could drool over that score.

The cinematography (if you can call it that) of modern video games has really been pulling me in... all I can think about for a home theater is playing games in it!

Back when Doom3 was state of the art... that got my heart pounding WAY more then any movie EVER did... now that you can have better graphics then that in a stable platform (my tricked out PC still crashed frequently)... I'm about ready to accept video games as the new pinnacle in entertainment. The last time I felt that way was with the Atari 800 and a Bruce Lee game.

Bioshock always looked like a good story... never played it though. Uncharted has really got my attention lately... that may be the game to make me finally buy a console.

Bioshock is awesome. More for feel than story, but both work very well. FEAR and FEAR2 are near the top of my list. I expect great things from Starcraft 2.

[edit] Agree with below, I forgot about that one. Especially Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty

That series seems to be build around giving you a cinematic experience, just from a FPS pov. Of course there's little story there, but the action and conflict they've designed is a story in itself. The cut scenes are phenomenal. How many games have a mission where you walk around trying to get up after a nuclear explosion, only to fall down and die from radiation?

I honestly could care less for the most part about online play. Unless it's a group of people I know in real life, I generally avoid it, and then it's only Halo 3 for brief periods. If I can't enjoy the story of a game, I tend to get bored with it fast.

I'm personally jonesing for Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, and will probably pick up Arkham Asylum before too long.

Matt... Bioshock=Awesome. Good gameplay, but I really liked the story. Atlas Shrugged turned on it's head. And Battlefield: Bad Company was probably the funniest game I have ever played.

odst is basically supposed to be a movie
which is extremely disappointing cause the game is alot worse because of it

LOL. Matt, I had the Bruce Lee game and played it on an Atari 400. Computers have come a long way since then...

As to games becoming cinematic experiences - I think that gamers have come to expect top notch plots and backstories. It really does help sell the game and give the gamer a vested interest to keep playing.

Some of the premises/plots ARE good. Look how many games have been translated to film. Not always successfully though.

I completely agree. Never saw the movie Max Payne, but the games were damn good, a real cinematic experience. IT was built around a story, not the other way around. But I heard they royally screwed it up in translating it to film. A lot of people wondered why as it pretty much was one already.

I'd like to get my hand at a game re-make, to do it properly. Either they get too caught up in trying to mimic the game experience or they never forget that it was a game first. They need to step back and say 'this is my story, let's make a real film'.

Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Bioshock. And watch out for Alan Wake spring of 2010. Looks awesome.

All of the mentioned titles are good. I remember this one game from my youth to be especially cinematic:

"Heart of Darkness".

As far as I can remember it was made over 5 years and was the firs computer game to have a full fledged cinematic soundtrack recorded. Gameplay was insanely fun and graphics were amazing for its day (1995 i thinks).

Check it out.

I think the first time I really gasped and just sat in awe was when I loaded up Final Fantasy 8 for the first time back in 1999. It blew me away. Now with games like Gears of War, Bioshock, and the likes, I don't see how much further games can really go.

Games that look like movies ruined gaming for me. I don't like them. I don't play them. The last Monkey Island (was it version 4?) was cinematic enough for me, anything more realistic is just way too much. I want a game to look like a game. I have to give credit to LucasArts, their games always have had witty dialogs and superb music score. Anyone who played "Indiana Jones: The fate of Atlantis" or Monkey Island series will attest that. Modern movie-looking games are plain boring to me.

Again, I'm horrendous at video games, but watching Uncharted is really like watching a movie - probably one of the few games I can tolerate my boyfriend play and actually be entertained by it, haha :P

Call of Duty Series, Zelda Series, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Halo Trilogy, and so far from what i've seen of the 3D Avatar game coming out. Hoping for that to be feeling and especially looking awesome.

I thought District 9 was a movie that felt like a game (and that's not meant as a criticism).
