I am a huge video game geek so i went to see it on opening night and i quite enjoyed it.

The film was made by the guys who brought you cranks, i'm surprised that in the advertising for this movie they never mentioned it, i'd think it would be a selling point, anyway.

If you like video games, fps, action, blood, boobs, shakey cam and editing of cranks, this is for you.

I had a blast watching it and it was shot on the RED camera and it looked really good, except for 3 shots in the whole movie where they jsut didnt work. BUt i'm thinking that those 3 shots were shot on another HD camera as they were destruction cams, that footage looked VIDEOISH and just looked like poo.

I had no idea it was shot with that, or in any HD acquisition format. Which is how it should be- something I don't notice.

For the movie itself? It was alright. Clearly the story part of filmmaking isn't their strong point.

I havent seen it yet but really I dont think most normal people see films like this for the story... :P. It would be nice though haha.

Yeah, I should elaborate. I didn't go to see an incredible story. I went to see things blow up. Don't worry, I'm not a cinema snob in that regard. Unfortunately, the filmmaker had different ideas. It pulled back from the crazy action and threw in too many attempts at meaningful plot action. While most of the scenes did manage to be intense and often schizophrenic enough, I think the story should have been toned down in favor of what this movie does best; ass kicking.

Writer and director Brian Taylor is a graduate of my school, the Los Angeles Film School. A couple days before Gamer opened we had a pre-screening followed by a Q&A with him, and it was a great experience. Not a great film by any means, but very entertaining. The look of the film which has sort of becoming the defining look of Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine (that really overlit, super fast shutter, rigid and fast paced feel) suited the story well, but the story itself isn't worth mentioning.

But it is entertaining, that's for sure. I just wish it does better at the box office as time goes on because it had a pretty terrible opening weekend and for the budget ($55 million) according to Brian Taylor, an $11 million opening weekend for an action film is not good.
