gain up!

Last night I shot a concert. Only one camera the 100a. I use 24pa and set the master ped way down to get a stark contrast and strong siloettes of people in in the audience. However, before the show started I went down into the audience, There light was vewry low compared to the stage lighting, So after trying various new lighting options i opted for just putting the gain up to 6db. The show started while My camera assist was away, and i was caught a bit off guard, and completely forgot about the gain setting i had left at 6db. I noticed while filming that my siloettes were not strong but never made the conection. My question is can i take gain away in post the same way i add it to the camera? Does this just suck or is there a way to cover my ass. Sorry haven´t gotten into the editing and am very lost in that regard. Thanks kellam

Re: gain up!

I am not exactly sure, but I believe that you can fix it in post. Basically all the gain does is boost the picture brightness. If you use Adobe premiere Pro, use the color correction filter and reduce the RGB gain, it should theoretically bump the grain down instead of bumping it up. I am almost certain that this will reduce some of the grain. IF it doesn't work exactly as desired then what I do is use the median filter or dust and scratches and render it. Once it is rendered I put it on top of the orginal video track without the filter, and change the opacity until the desired look is found. It will reduce resolution a little but for some things it works well.
