Gain 18db

Must admit I havent completed many projects yet with my 150 but coming from a DVX background I havent been tempted to use the Gain 18db option for fear of footage-destroying noise. However, I tried it out and it's not that bad IMO.

720/60p PH was the mode and it sure brightens the footage way up from Gain 12db but I didnt think the noise ruined the footage to a point you couldnt use it. Once I have delivered this on SD DVD hopefully it will have been reduced. I am a big fan of Neat Video's Reduce Noise plug-in which helps big time.

If you dont see the difference with your eyes, there is no difference.
Even if there is noticable noise, it will be washed-up with SD conversion, because in SD DVD, the pixel size is much bigger than the Noise.

And off-course you can reduce noise with plug-in.

Enjoyed your vid Skilled, must say although not as clean as I've seen, it wasnt half bad for Gain 18db, nice job.

I did this one in 18 gain.. I noticed the grain right off the bat.

Looking at your video, the grain is not too bad, and could be cleaned up completely with the NeatVideo plug-in. ( www.neatvideo.com )

Also, there is no "true" black in your video ( the darkest blacks appear as shades of mid to dark grey ), which is an indication that you need to adjust the gamma in your video editor to fix this. In Sony Vegas this is a 10 second fix using the "Levels" plug-in.

Neat Video saved my butt a few times when shooting with high gain on the XHA1. Makes the noise almost invisible. Definitely try it out.
