Gaia Runway Show Screengrabs!

Recently completed editing work on a fashion show I shot a couple of weeks ago.

I shot the main runway show with an HVX200 and used a HDV Sony HDR-HC3 for the behind the scenes shots as well as it being the secondary camera during the show.

The first 2 are from the HVX200 which I shot at 720p/24pn at a 1/24 shutter speed, with P2 Cards

The last one is from the HDR-HC3 which I shot at 1080i using the cinema shutter speed on the camera, which actually turned out looking exactly like if I had shot it at 24p, and I shot this HDV on MiniDV

here are the screen grabs:

Hi Degallardo,
Those pics look awesome, very different from the ever-so-common harsh lit/overexposed catwalk shoots I see on fashion TV!
I have been asked to shoot a charity fashion show event, would be nice to hear what settings you used as I might be using the HVX for this one too.

Did you set up a reflector in front of that model in the first pic btw?
Thanks!
Martin

love the black and white.. HVX kills in Blaxck and white with the blacks crushed and the whites pushed... cheers

Wow, you sure know what you're doing.

But as in any case, if you have something interesting to watch (ie. the beautiful woman in grab one) then the human eye will disregard bad framin/color/motion/etc.

Not that your framing or lighting is bad in the least.

A+.

hey guys

thanks alot for the positive feedback.

heres a look at my setup for that day

I lit it off 2 strip lights that were also used as strobes for the photographer I was working with that day.
so the softboxes helped alot on giving it a softer feel.

The designer wanted the whole look and feel of the show to be
very earthy and dreamlike, sort of like a midsummer nights dream. So I added a soft focus to the shots in post.

oooh - pretty!!
Is your HVX really a transformer? It looks like it's halfway between turning into a robot.

Lovely images - look forward to some footy!

Hey, thanks for posting!
Some nice looking ladies there...

anyhow, the soft focus made it a little TOO dull ( strictly my opinion ), but if that is the look they wanted, so be it. I think it turned out very nicely overall besides that.

Good luck with your endeavors!

Hey - I think it's really cool. I actually like the softness.
Quick question. I've not yet shot B&W on mine, what's the best way, just desaturate all the way? or is there some better config ?

Well the black and white stuff you see was shot on the Sony HDR-HC3 HDV camera, and all I did was shoot it clean, no changes in configuration, in color then simply play with it and desaturate it in post. I use the same method if I was B&W footage from the HVX, it just gives me more liberties in post if I shoot it clean and properly exposed.
