G7 or gh4/5 for narrative video?

Curious if it would be worth spending more for the gh over the g7 for narrative video? Can get the g7 for less so I'm wondering if the iq wont be near as good when compared to the gh4 or 5?

The GH5 is a much better camera than any of them in that entire lineup (besides the GH5S, arguably) and if you plan on producing/creating multiple projects with a camera for the next few years, it would be well worth the investment.

OTOH, if you don't plan on grading the footage and the narratives are not that serious (just for fun here and there), the G7 is a very capable camera as is the GH4 (which of course is a classic).

EDIT: I actually don't recommend the GX9 (even though the image is really nice) if you require a mic input.

When talking 4k 8 bit all cameras are similar.

The GH4's 1080 is better then the G7, it also has 96fps.

The GH5 is better in low light, at both 1600 and 3200, compared to the GH4 and G7. When shooting in 10 bit hlg and log you get a stop or two more of dynamic range and the color is much better. The IBIS on the GH5 is superb.

If I were going the Panasonic route again I'd probably get the GH5, they aren't very expensive used.

I used a G7 as my b cam with my GH4, until upgrading to G85 and Gh5. Sorta wish I still had a G7 as a C cam. They all cut together great. the biggest down fall for me was not having Cine 4k option that I shoot most of my gh5 stuff in.

Well, for starters - whether it helps or not - having the availability of 200mbps on the GH4.

In pure IQ in terms of in camera recordings, I'd give the edge to a G7 over a GH4. And a G80/G85 would be even nicer than a G7

But I'd take a GH5 over all of them.

And for me personally, I'd prefer the GH5S over the GH5 (depends on how much you care about IBIS).

But you need to look at your overall budget, no point spending more on a camera if you scrimp on lenses/lights/audio/etc
