GH4 G7 auto mode set up..

I am wanting to set up a mode in my G7 that lets me use it more like a regular video camera for chasing after the kids. To keep exposures in a safe range i would love to be able to lock the shutter speed and aperture and just have auto iso work... but this doesn't seem possible/

A kludge I have found is to set flkr reduction to my desired shutter speed (1/50) and use the red video button in manual mode. This lets me keep the SS the same but not necessarily locking aperture.... I thought.

This guy however....

Describes the setting up of this mode...
"Set the right-hand dial to M (not “Video M”), then set the still aspect ratio to 16:9, and the left dial to 4K. In the “Spanner C” menu on page 5, set Constant Preview to On, then in the “Video” menu on page 3, set Flicker Decrease to your preferred shutter speed as noted above. Set ISO to auto, and the camera will automatically change ISO (not aperture) to adjust exposure—ideal for live run-and-gun situations."

Is he right? Stuff I don't get... why change the left side dial to 4k.. what has that got to do with movie mode? Why set the still aspect ratio to 16:9... that won't affect movie mode? Why set auto iso? As soon as you hit the movie button it will pick auto iso anyway right? And why does he think this mode locks aperture? Surely aperture is auto in this mode and you have no control over it?

I think he has just got it wrong - but would be great to hear otherwise if someone could explain.

Unbelievable that panasonic don't let us just use auto iso in creative movie mode by the way... what are they thinking?

If you use any of mode dial photo modes the video exposure is fully automatic. If you use flickr decrease the shutter may be locked but the aperture and iso floats and you cant even see what the camera is doing.

Panasonic will eventually add auto iso in M for video but it takes time to figure it out. Maybe GH5 or GH6 will have it. First without EV comp but finally some day with EV comp.

Maybe they will find also some additional processing power and clever programming to show exposure values during video recording. They have already made it possible for photos.

By the way if you use shutter priority (from menu in video mode) the aperture changes in steps and you get jumpy exposure. If you are indoors you can use S with auto iso. Aperture is then probably fully open all the time and the auto iso changes smoothly. If you want smooth auto exposure outdoors you can use aperture priority because shutter speed changes smoothly. You may still have too high or low shutter speed leading odd motion.

You can also use P with auto iso. No one knows what the camera is doing then but maybe Panasonic has programmed it with some sense.
