MPEG-4 encoding is at 25 or 50fps at 1080p. Switching to AVCHD format adds 24p and 50i to the options, but details weren't as crisp in this format. Encoding is at up to 28Mbit/s – there's no 50Mbit/s or 72Mbit/s recording as per the GH3 here – but we didn't see any evidence of compression artefacts. A bigger disappointment for ambitious filmmakers is that the HDMI output is disabled while recording.

That's probably enough to protect sales of the GH3. However, in two respects the G6 is an even better video camera than the GH3. Its peaking focus mode is a huge benefit for video, making it easier to adjust the manual focus while recording. It also supports remote video capture over Wi-Fi from the accompanying iOS and Android apps, so a tablet can be used as a wireless monitor.

...and this new vimeo sample from cameralabs ...there are 6 new videos from cameralabs posted.

No external HDMI out while recording?

Obvious crippling of a camera to protect the GH3. Panasonic know what we all want in a camera and they can give it to us at a reasonable price..........they just don't want to.

Shame on you Panasonic, your just another Canon.

I can't quite tell if that's sarcasm... or not...

Image looks great from the G6. I'm still in a holding patern, happy with my GH2, but would really like the headphone jack on GH3, or potentially the power of the BMPC. But if I was getting something right now to go with my GH2, I just might take on a G6. It really is looking like a nice little camera.

Specs off the panasonic website sais it has 50p in AVCHD i was under the impression that AVCHD was always better.can someone clarify this for me or is MP4 basically the sam?

Why is it crippling ? It obviously takes extra hardware. I think it's absurd to criticize panasonic at this pricepoint. If you want to use a monitor or external evf, you simply have to buy the gh3. And from all the reports thus far, the g6 evf is very good.

G6 not having external viewing capabilities will simply not work for many professional productions.
GH3 remains at the top spot...
..

Seems like a step back for Gh3 users.

I'm GH2, but I wouldn't consider this (or a GH3 to be honest).
It's BMPCC next.

The G6 has focus peaking that comes in handy when manually focusing. Amateurs filming their kids concert would not really use this feature, they would just use auto focus. So, the people who would obviously benefit from focus peaking would also generally like to use external monitors at some point. It just doesn't make any sense.

Unless Black Magic sort out the miriad of issues that makes shooting with their cinema camera cumbersome, for my use I can't use it as my only go to cam. Overall, the GH3 is a much better camera unless you really need RAW.

I'm talking about the pocket cam.
Can't see it being any harder to use than the GH2.

Yes, I know you are talking about the Pocket Cam but as far as I know, it uses pretty much the same software. No deleting a clip in camera, dropped frames, no internal audio metering or any on screen meters, no 50/60p to name a few. These issues may be resolved in the Pocket when it's released but maybe not.

I think DR makes up for all Pocket's issues :)
I'm on the same boat as Fresno Bob - as a GH2 user, BMPCC is the only thing I consider to buy atm.

The pocket cam doesn't have the same dr as the cinema cam, I think it may be better in low light than the ghx cams though. Im not sure the difference between the pocket cam and the ghx when comparing DR.

Battery life, storage, narrowed FOV.......

The only thing it has is IQ. If you can deal with the other issues then it becomes the better camera. But only within those confines.

Don't expect it to be a replacement for a GH series. Just because it has a m43 mount doesn't make it so. Two different beast. For the narrative shooter on a really tight budget it is a godsend. For other work it will be problematic.

Narrowed FOV?

So you need a 17mm to equal the size of a 25mm on the GH2, that's really not that bad.

Also most people will still keep their GH2/GH3 and just add the pocket cam as another camera. Personally I think it looks great!

Well, it uses the same sensor, doesn't it?

That means it should have about 13 stops. GH2 is said to be 7-8 stops, at the very best. GH3 maybe a stop better. That's a pretty huge difference.

Yas it does, and it's one stop better than the production cam.

I use a SmallHD DP4 and Zoom H4n.
No one using this for serious work is going to be relying on the camera for either of those.
