G4 powerbook specs for hvx use?

i've searched and read a number of posts re. use of a g4 laptop with the hvx.

is the intended workflow for this meant for capturing straight to disk from the hvx firewire and/or dumping your p2 cards? can the g4 laptops accept a p2 card? (sorry, mac newbie here..)

in summary, i'm looking at several used g4s to use w/ an hvx.

could someone be more specific on the optimal specs for this box (intended for use w/ the hvx)?

thanks in advance!

G4 laptops that have a PCMI slot can accept the p2 cards with the p2 driver software. The 15" and 17" Powerbooks have the PCMI slot, the 12" does not. I'm running a 1.0 ghz G4 powerbook 15" and it works great! You could also download from firewire as well if you really wanted to. Make sure you get an external drive though because most drives in the powerbooks are slow, plus you really shouldn't put media on your system drive anyhow... Hope that helps.

We have a PB 1.67 G4. It has a PC Card slot which works with the p2 driver software and our 4 and 8 gb cards.

You can capture directly to FCP 5.0.4 but not any 24pn. That's not an issue however.

If you capture, it would be advised to get an ExpressCard/34 firewire card and attach that to the cam and then attach a FW drive to the motherboard FW bus.

iBooks, 12-inch PBs -- do not have PC Card slots as stated.

Neither does MB or MB Pro.
