Does anyone think the progress of the g35 is a little shady? I have been watching this companies website since the inception and they haven't delivered a product yet. They never have full pictures of their unit and promises are never fulfilled.

lol what? Have you been to their website? They've got pics of their unit on the main page and all over the forums. There are a few dozen people that have pre-production models and preorders began a couple of weeks ago. There's really no way this company is a phony.

Well, you're both right in some sense. They have made claims to several dates and they have met very few. They do not have a picture of the production unit on the site. They only have a picture of the preproduction version that went out to some beta testers. The product has changed since then, however, to a moving, rather than static adapter. They have taken preorders, yes, but they have not accepted any money yet and won't until they can guarantee anything. I beleive they are waiting on the manufacturer, but as of now, only the guys at Cinemek can be sure. The company is legit, I think it comes down to the fact that the guys running it don't have much business experience and aren't really sure how to handle customer relations all that well (keep in mind this is just an assumption). It seems like it'll be at least another month before the g35 is in the hands of the public, but this is really just a hopeful guestimate. There's really no telling as of now. Until they accept the $500 deposits on the first 50 units and guarentee ship dates, I'm afraid we're in the dark.

I for one am glad G35 and Redrock Micro have taken such a long time to be available. It not only got me off my butt to build my own, but has brought in alot of other affordable alternatives such as Letus and SG35.

The prototype of the G35 was simply amazing. I owned one. They gave me literally all of my money back on the purchase of the finished product. I actually sold mine because of medical reasons, but I have to tell you Jonathan is an Honest man and the G35 is real. It works GREAT. I am one satisfied customer and I feel fortunate that I had time to 'Play' with this unit before I gave up the professional status. By that, I mean I got rid of all of my Pro toys and I only have personal stuff to play with now. But, I will Never forget the Quality and workmanship that the G35 offered and the extreme Pleasure of doing business with Jonathan. I am Witness!

guys guys....

for one, they DO have production model pics on their site. what do you think that is on their main page? They also have pics on the forums, but you have to find those.
The reason it is taking so long right now is the manufacturer. They are waiting on them to ship the units. After they get those, they have to post more demo footage since it is a vibrating glass. Who knows? they may be making their test footage right now.

Right now a bunch of people are whining on the forums, but I agree, it has been very hard to wait for this thing to be released. I figured I'd have one by now.

But there's no way they are phony.

tjohara00,

the pic on their page is an old model the static one. The new version is vibrating glass and has a battery housing attached to it some where.

I understand the complaints. No footage of new adapter. No pics of new adapter. No more preorders taken. No delivery on the old preorders. Constant changing of release dates and confusing and contradictory info on the forum.

However, keep in mind that these guys are a small start up. Yes they will be rich in a year but right now they are just trying to get this thing off the ground. All the whining on all the forums is a bit much. I understand the disappointment in not getting the toy faster but come on, give the guys a break. They've come up with a real winner of a product so far. The static adapter ver deliver's amazing results.

The only other adapter that compares is the mpic and costs 3 times as much and is only manufactured once in a while.

-it's real just wait.

That's the same as the letus!
What makes this better then the letus?
Why is it $1000.00 or whatever it cost, more than the letus?

Yes, it is real, Jonathan left a prototype here for about a week. He asked me to make the MPIC movement for G35, we negotiated some terms and left some in the air and that is why is taking so long for the release, OK?
The outside battery was the option when he got here, inside with a plug for on/off switch and speed control (attachable) when he left.
Jonathan could also consider making his own movement (hopefully leaving inspiration from MPIC aside)

I did not see the "grainless" screen or the front SLR mount, so I can not comment. They should be as good as the rest of the tube, mount and achromat lens (nice machined and finish on it).

The MPIC is made by order and it takes one month to receive the unit. Once in a while is not an accurate statement. Not a mass produced item is right, but orders are placed and people will start showing footage soon. Not all have PAYING work lined up to see a RETURN ON INVESTMENT and not all can afford "no compromise" products.
Waiting IS an option when funds are not.

As for the difference to Letus....
If you can not figure it out, you would not know to appreciate the better of the two.

Back to G35. A big BRAVO for Jonathan.

Why? Because after one year of believing, testing and experimenting with static screens, he was WISE enough to realize that if is not good enough (as static) it should not be released. That means LOTS OF R&D MONEY down the drain from his own pockets!

He is a man you can count on to deliver a good product (whether the screen will be powered by "MPIC engines" or no)

My 2c on the issue.

Dan,

I certainly meant no negative slant on my "once in a while" comment. I was loosly referencing your site's post that stated "Accepting 20 orders only for March-April".

Sorry if it sounded flippant. It wasn't my intent.

Your MPIC is an amazing adapter and a total trail blazer. And sadly too expensive for my broke ass.

Do you deal with any of the rental houses in Toronto. I've looked around but with no luck.

No harm done and no hard feelings here. I am a lousy "mass producer"....
Nothing in Toronto, but you could do some talk there... hehehe...

Dan, first of all, you're one of my favorite members on the boards. Your stuff is of incredibly quality (I have one of your SLR gear rings), is consistantly cleverly engineered, and the footage Steev posted with his hvx and MPIC is the best I've seen in terms of emulating 35mm film. It definitely beats the JVC with a mini35--even in tests with Cooke lenses.

But...you're awfully stubborn. Usually this is a very good thing in that it means you don't compromise on quality or back down in arguments. In fact, it's what I most admire about your attitude towards what you make. But it's not ALWAYS a good thing. I'm getting two messages from you:

"I don't want to make any more MPICs; they're too much work without enough pay. But I'll make them anyway because there's such a demand."

and

"I won't let anyone use my technology."

BOTH make sense and are totally understandable. However, they're self defeating. You say the MPIC is too carefully machined for mass-production, and I believe it. But Jonathan's found a way to mass produce the G35 (with a very different design) and by liscencing out your motion system, you stand to make money on it, without actually having to do much work. Now everyone can get what they want: the MPIC motion system, the G35 ground glass (Here's a hint, guys: The hi-lux version is just microwax.), a mass-produced unit, and a reasonable price. You say Jonathan's making a quality product, so it won't cheapen your technology, merely make it accessible to those of us who can't afford it. The MPIC has its advantages, besides: the GG has a built in condenser, and the thing is so incredibly compact.

I know I shouldn't butt in, and I know you have your reasons, but I think everyone would stand to benefit from you liscening your technology. Assuming you get some royalties or something, of course.

That is not true. I am settled on the price that I feel is right for the quality and I build them as I receive orders.

"But I'll make them anyway because there's such a demand."

I see joy in the user's posts. I was not and I am not money driven. If I was, I would have flooded the market with cheap $..t a long time ago. I am interested in the best that can be done. Is not the demand that motivates me....

and

"I won't let anyone use my technology."

For the simple fact I posted the above, proves the opposite of your statement.
The simple fact Jonathan came to Vancouver to see how we can "make it happen" shows the opposite. But the "details" are there to take care of...

>>>>But Jonathan's found a way to mass produce the G35 (with a very different design) <<<<

well?... I am not interfering so far with anything.

>>and by liscencing out your motion system, you stand to make money on it, without actually having to do much work<<<

In theory you are right. Practically speaking..... is a bit different.
I have to redesign the movement for the new housing and a lot of other issues screen and housing related....
We'll see...

Thanks for all the comments on the G35 progress. Each person made very good points. The picture on the main website is not good enough in my opinion. They should have better quality pics of their products on the main page without having to dig through a flurry of forum threads for some beta product pictures. Finally, they should not make promises about anything until they know for sure they can actually follow through with them. I am a redrock micro man and will remain faithful to that company because I have personally interacted with them and think they have their act together.

So - this is what I'm getting from this discussion: Cinemek isn't actually ready with their hi-lux (moving GG) adapter at all - or else why would they be talking to Dan? If this is true, then I see months and months of further delays and excuses for not delivering a product. Don't cry "wolf" ...

Faithful? Like religious faithful?

do you own a RR hat and put it on when you use your m3 yet? Don't get me wrong, I love my redrock micro cinescreen and get sweaty palms like I'm on my first date everytime i use mine. But bashing a company not even out the gate and making comparisons sounds a mite fantic. If you read the posts about redrock 6 months ago, people were frustrated as well. The fact that cottage industries are emerging offering soulutions for the ever popular DoF should be encouraged. Constructive criticism on the actual product should be given. I feel you do your self an unjustice damning Cinemek before their horse even leave's it's gate.

just my 2 cents.

And where are people getting the Idea that the finished model is using a Microwax soulution. I heard it was micro gray aliens spining a piece of glass made of crystal meth at a variable rate of speed. :O

thats what I heard.
